Bridging The Divide

The Elevation Church, Lagos, Nigeria

BRIDGING THE DIVIDE

Today, we are elevating our conversation about the concept of being sent by God to a higher level. Our starting point was Isaiah chapter 6, verse 8, where Isaiah responded to God’s question about who shall go for Him and who shall be sent. Isaiah’s answer, “Here I am, send me,” sets the stage for our discussion. We are currently living in a time where God is actively seeking individuals whom He desires to send and use for His purposes. It is crucial for everyone to grasp the fact that God is deeply concerned about the various situations and circumstances that exist in our world today.

In our previous discussion, we emphasized the idea that God is calling us to reach out to our peers. If you missed this message, it is available on all our platforms. The title of the message was “The Class of 2020: Send Me to My Peers.” Additionally, it is important to recognize that God desires to send us to our respective communities, regardless of where we are located. Whether you are joining our service from Africa, Nigeria, other African countries, states within Nigeria, North America, Europe, Australia, or any other part of the world, it is essential to comprehend that God has His focus on every community. This is especially significant in the current climate, where social distancing has become a critical issue. People who were once accustomed to gathering together are now maintaining distance from one another. Many individuals are facing various challenges and uncertainties, wondering who will be there for them. In response to this, God is asking, “Whom shall I send?” Just as Isaiah declared, “Here I am, send me,” it is crucial to understand that God desires to send each one of us to our communities.

It is imperative to recognize that God’s intention is to send each of us to our communities, where we can make a positive impact. Despite the challenges posed by social distancing and the various difficulties people are facing, God is actively seeking individuals who are willing to be sent. Therefore, it is essential for us to embrace the understanding that God wants to use us to bring hope, comfort, and support to those around us. As we navigate through these unprecedented times, let us respond to God’s call by declaring, “Here I am, send me,” and be willing to be instruments of His love and compassion in our communities.

In recent weeks, individuals have reached out to me via social media to express their concerns about the ongoing challenges faced by Nigerians due to insurgency in the northeast, as well as other issues such as banditry and corruption within our nation. There is a prevailing sentiment that the church is not doing enough to address these issues, and this sentiment seems to be widespread not only in Nigeria but also around the world. In response to these concerns, it is important for us to recognize that the church is not limited to a physical building or a single pastor. Rather, we, the people, are the church. According to the Bible, the church is called to equip and empower its members to carry out the work of ministry, which may include advocating for justice, directly assisting marginalized and underprivileged individuals, and combating corruption within society.

It is often suggested that if a few influential pastors were to mobilize their congregations, significant change could be achieved. However, it is crucial for individuals to be well-informed about the current state of the world and the role that they are called to play by God. Once individuals are enlightened and understand their purpose, they can set aside their personal idiosyncrasies and focus on fulfilling God’s plan for the world. This is the message that I am emphasizing today – the need for us to set aside our personal differences and respond to the question, “Who shall go for us? Who shall we send?” We must answer this question not only by saying, “Here I am, send me,” but also by expressing our willingness to be sent to our communities, neighborhoods, and the issues that are affecting those around us.

During today’s service, I urge everyone to join me in a prayer by typing “send me to my community” in the chat room. This prayer reflects a commitment to being sent not only to our peers, but also to the broader community and the challenges that are unfolding in our surroundings. It is time for us to embrace this call to action and actively engage with the world around us, seeking to make a positive impact and address the pressing issues that affect our society. As we come together in prayer and unity, let us be willing to be sent to our communities, demonstrating our dedication to serving and uplifting those in need.

I am convinced that in this particular season, the divine intervention of God is going to empower you with a remarkable level of courage. This courage will enable you to overcome barriers and obstacles that have previously hindered your progress. It will embolden you to break free from the limitations that have confined you to your comfort zone. Many individuals express a desire for God to use them to make a positive impact in the world. Similarly, I share this aspiration, and I have observed that a common misconception exists among people. It is the belief that one can simultaneously enjoy comfort and make a significant impact. However, the truth is that in order to create a meaningful impact, one must be willing to endure discomfort. Stepping out of one’s comfort zone is an essential prerequisite for making a lasting difference in the lives of others. This is the message that I am emphasizing during this season.

The theme of my message today is centered around the concept of bridging divides. Divisions are prevalent in numerous cities, including Lagos, Nigeria, where I currently reside. Lagos is characterized by the presence of the Island and Mainland areas. The 3rd Mainland Bridge, which is one of the longest bridges in West Africa, serves as a vital link between these two regions. As a resident of the Island area, I have personally experienced the impact of the ongoing repairs on this bridge. The resulting inconvenience has affected the ability of individuals to commute between the Island and Mainland areas. While Lagos is equipped with other bridges such as the Eco Bridge and Carter Bridge, the current situation serves as a poignant illustration of the challenges posed by physical divides within the city.

Despite the difficulties caused by the repair work on the 3rd Mainland Bridge, it is important to acknowledge the significance of these structures in connecting different parts of the city. These bridges play a crucial role in uniting the Island and Mainland areas, thereby facilitating the movement of people and goods. The repair work on the 3rd Mainland Bridge serves as a reminder of the importance of bridging divides, not only in a physical sense but also in a metaphorical and societal context. It is a call to action for individuals to work towards overcoming barriers and divisions that exist within their communities. By addressing these divides, we can foster unity, collaboration, and progress, ultimately creating a more cohesive and inclusive society.

The residents of the island have varying opinions about the mainlanders. Many individuals living on the island, particularly in areas like Lekki Peninsula, Ikoyi, and Victoria Island, have different mindsets when it comes to interacting with mainlanders. Some even hold the belief that those living on the mainland possess certain idiosyncrasies that require a special approach when engaging with them. This perception has led to a divide between the two groups, with each side viewing the other in a distinct light.

It is crucial to recognize that it is time to break down these barriers and foster unity within the community. Despite physical structures connecting different parts of the region, there are emotional and spiritual divides that have been created over time. This phenomenon is not unique to this particular area, as similar divides can be observed in various parts of the world, such as the racial divide in America and the power rotation between the north and south in Nigeria. These divisions hinder the sense of unity that should exist among all members of the community.

As believers, it is essential to tap into the power of the Holy Spirit to bridge these divides and promote unity. The Holy Spirit has the capacity to bring about transformation and reconciliation, enabling individuals to overcome the barriers that have been erected over time. By embracing the power of the Holy Spirit, believers can work towards breaking down these divides and fostering a sense of unity and togetherness within the community. It is through this collective effort that true unity and understanding can be achieved, transcending the physical, emotional, and spiritual divides that have long existed.

In the United States, there are distinct regions known as the East Coast and the West Coast. When discussing events on the East Coast, it is understood that these occurrences have a global impact. This is because around the world, various regions experience different types of divisions, whether they be economic, religious, or otherwise. These divisions are often seen as barriers that prevent communities from coming together and spreading the message of Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ himself proclaimed that he is the light of the world, not just of one particular side of any divide. In the book of Acts, chapter 1, verse 8, Jesus tells his disciples that they will receive power through the Holy Ghost and will be witnesses for him in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. This progression from Jerusalem to Samaria symbolizes the journey from familiarity to the unknown, from those who are similar to those who are different.

The concept of division is not inherently negative, as it allows for diversity and variety in the world. Just as Americans, Nigerians, and Canadians are all part of distinct groups, there are differences within these groups that should be embraced. While some may look, speak, or think differently, these variations should be seen as enriching rather than divisive. Ultimately, the message of spreading light and love should transcend any perceived barriers or differences among people.

The enemy, the devil, often plants seeds of division in our minds, making us see people who are different from us as bad or terrible. This mindset leads us to believe that those who do not share our views or opinions are somehow inferior or wrong. For example, when it comes to political affiliations, if someone votes for a different party than we do, we may automatically label them as terrible or misguided. Similarly, in the realm of sports, fans of different clubs in the English Premier League may view each other with disdain, believing that their own club is superior. This kind of thinking creates barriers between us and limits our ability to connect and influence others across these divides.

It is crucial to recognize the need to bridge these divides and come together as one, as this is where the power of the Holy Spirit comes into play. Jesus instructed his followers to be witnesses to him, starting from their own communities and spreading out to the ends of the earth. In Acts chapter 2, we see a powerful example of this unity and empowerment when the day of Pentecost arrived. The believers were gathered together in one accord, and suddenly, a miraculous event took place. A sound from heaven, like a rushing wind, filled the room, and cloven tongues of fire appeared above each person’s head. They began to speak in unknown tongues, demonstrating the power and presence of the Holy Spirit among them.

As we delve into the scriptures and reflect on these passages, we are reminded of the transformative and unifying force of God’s spirit. By embracing this unity and allowing the Holy Spirit to work through us, we can overcome divisions, prejudices, and limitations that hinder our ability to fulfill our calling. Let us strive to be like the believers in Acts chapter 2, coming together in one accord, speaking the language of love and understanding, and allowing God to propel us to new levels of purpose and impact in our lives. May we be open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and be willing vessels for God’s work in the world.

The passage discusses the impact of a particular sound mentioned in the scripture, specifically in verse 5. It describes how, during the day of Pentecost, the power of the Holy Ghost came upon a group of devout Jews from various nations who were dwelling in Jerusalem. When this sound occurred, it resulted in a significant effect. The multitudes came together and were amazed because they could hear the speakers in their own language, despite coming from different backgrounds and speaking different languages. This event was not a negative confusion, but rather a positive one, as it brought people together and enabled them to speak boldly.

The power of the Holy Ghost allowed individuals, primarily from Galilee, to speak in different languages, breaking the barriers of language and culture. This unification through language was the first sign of the Holy Ghost’s arrival, as it brought together people from diverse communities, backgrounds, and age groups. The passage emphasizes that the power of the Holy Ghost empowered these individuals to communicate seamlessly, regardless of their differences. The amazement and confusion experienced by the listeners further highlight the impact of the Holy Ghost’s power, as it enabled people to connect and understand each other in a way that transcended linguistic and cultural boundaries.

The passage also lists the various demographics of the people who were able to hear the speakers in their own language, emphasizing the widespread impact of the Holy Ghost’s power. This event serves as a testament to the unifying and transformative influence of the Holy Ghost, as it enabled individuals to communicate and connect with one another in a profound and meaningful way. The passage underscores the significance of this event as a demonstration of the Holy Ghost’s ability to bring people together, regardless of their differences, and create a sense of unity and understanding among diverse groups.

In the second chapter of the Bible, verse 7, it is written that the people were astonished and amazed at what they were witnessing. They were marveling at the fact that those who were speaking were Galileans. In verse 8, it is mentioned that they were surprised to hear the message being spoken in their own language, the language in which they were born. The people from various regions such as Parthia, Media, Elam, Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia, Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, and parts of Libya near Cyrene, as well as visitors from Rome, were all present and were astonished to hear the message in their own tongues. This was a miraculous event that left everyone amazed and perplexed, wondering what it all meant.

The arrival of the Holy Ghost brought about a powerful transformation in the people. They were filled with boldness to speak and bear witness to the glory of God. The power of God enabled them to bridge the divide and communicate with people from different regions and backgrounds.

This season, I pray that the power of God will come upon you, enabling you to overcome every limitation and bridge every divide that hinders the expression of God’s calling in your life.

May you be empowered to shine your light in every place that God sends you to, breaking through barriers and reaching those who are in need.

I declare that the hand of God is coming upon you, empowering you to break through every limitation and go beyond industry lines. Regardless of your profession or level of education, God wants to use you to touch the lives of those in society who are in need. Whether you are a lawyer, a medical practitioner, or a learned individual, God has a plan to use you to reach the least of the people in society. Embrace the power of God and allow it to work through you, breaking down barriers and reaching those who need to experience the love and grace of God.

The manifestation of power in our lives as Christians should not only lead to personal breakthroughs but also to a deeper purpose of reaching out to others in our society and communities. Jesus set the perfect example of this when He chose to interact with the Samaritan woman at the well in John chapter 4. Despite the cultural divide between Jews and Samaritans, Jesus intentionally went through Samaria to demonstrate the importance of crossing barriers to share the love of God with all people.

As believers, it is crucial to understand that the anointing of the Holy Spirit and the presence of God in our lives are not just for our own benefit, but also for the purpose of serving others and spreading the message of Christ. While breakthroughs are significant, the primary reason for the Holy Spirit being sent to us is to empower us to be witnesses of God’s goodness and love to those around us. This requires a shift in mindset from self-centered desires to a focus on fulfilling the works of God in reaching out to others.

Many individuals today may claim to follow Jesus for personal blessings and favor, rather than embracing the call to be active participants in sharing the gospel and bridging divides in society. However, Jesus’ actions in John chapter 4 serve as a powerful reminder that as Christians, we are called to emulate His example of reaching out to those who may be different from us. By living out the Christ life practically and engaging in the work of witnessing, we can truly reflect the love and compassion of God to a world in need of His grace.

There may be instances where you have consciously decided not to visit certain places or go through specific experiences. Similarly, you might have made up your mind not to engage in conversations with particular individuals. Moreover, there could be deep-seated ethnic tensions within your community that have been left unaddressed for a considerable period. Especially in the current scenario where physical gatherings like church services are limited, and most of your time is spent at home, it is crucial to reflect on these aspects of avoidance and reluctance.

It is essential to consider whether there are people whom you have chosen not to communicate with, and despite the passage of time, you still maintain that stance. Additionally, there might be a group of individuals that you are hesitant to engage with, even though you sense a calling or a prompting to connect with them. Drawing inspiration from the biblical account of Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well, it becomes evident that sometimes, our needs can serve as a gateway to meaningful interactions and relationships.

Jesus’ approach to initiating a conversation with the Samaritan woman exemplifies the importance of starting dialogues on common ground, such as basic human needs like water, before delving into deeper spiritual matters. By bridging the gap between Jews and Samaritans through a simple request for water, Jesus demonstrated the power of humility, vulnerability, and genuine connection. Therefore, it is crucial to reflect on our own tendencies to avoid certain interactions or communities and consider how we can follow Jesus’ example in reaching out and fostering unity amidst diversity.

Typically, when a man is engaging in conversation with a woman, particularly a woman like the one from Samaria who had been married multiple times, there are certain assumptions that may come into play. The woman in question may have been perceived as someone who is always active and on the move, possibly even considered attractive. When Jesus approached her, a man asking a woman for water, she might have initially thought of it as just another man trying to grab her attention. In many cultures, there is a common sentiment of “here we go again” when men approach women, as there is often an underlying assumption that men always have ulterior motives when interacting with women.

It is important to recognize that both men and women can fall into the trap of feeling like others always want something from them. This can lead to a sense of distrust and a tendency to shut down emotionally. However, it is crucial to remember that God can use anyone, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or race. It is essential not to let personal insecurities hinder the potential for God to work through individuals. Crossing boundaries and reaching out to others, even those who may seem different from us, is a way to spread light and positivity in our communities.

For those who may be listening or reading this message, whether from the Western world or elsewhere, it is a reminder to step out of our comfort zones and connect with those around us, even if they may not share the same background or beliefs. Embracing diversity and reaching out across divides can lead to meaningful connections and opportunities for God to work through us. By shining our light and extending kindness to those in our communities, we can make a positive impact and show God’s love to those around us.

The encounter between Jesus and the woman of Samaria at the well is a powerful example of breaking down barriers and revealing the true nature of God’s love and grace. Initially, the woman was taken aback by Jesus, a Jew, asking her, a Samaritan, for water. This interaction highlighted the cultural and social divides that existed between the Jews and Samaritans at that time. However, Jesus saw beyond these divisions and offered the woman something far greater than physical water – living water, a symbol of eternal life and spiritual fulfillment.

As the conversation unfolded, Jesus urged the woman to recognize the gift of God and the depth of His generosity. He emphasized that the living water He offered was not temporary or limited like the water from the well, but a source of everlasting satisfaction. Jesus’s words challenged the woman to look beyond her immediate circumstances and consider the spiritual reality that He was presenting to her. This shift in perspective opened the woman’s eyes to the possibility of receiving something far greater than she had ever imagined.

The transformation in the woman’s attitude and understanding was profound. Initially skeptical and focused on the physical limitations of the well, she gradually began to grasp the spiritual truth that Jesus was revealing to her. Her question about the source of the living water showed that she was beginning to see beyond the surface level and engage with Jesus on a deeper level. Jesus’s response further emphasized the eternal nature of the living water He offered, highlighting the transformative power of God’s grace and the boundless love that He extends to all who seek Him.

Jesus transitioned the conversation from physical water to the concept of water that springs onto everlasting life. He positioned Himself in a way that indicated to the woman that while her immediate needs were important, what God truly desired to do in her life was at a deeper level. By encouraging her to step into that level, He made it clear that all her mundane needs would pale in comparison. The woman, intrigued by this idea, eagerly asked for the water that would quench her thirst eternally, showing her willingness to receive what Jesus had to offer.

Upon the woman’s request, Jesus then prompted her to call her husband. When she admitted that she had no husband, Jesus, through a word of knowledge and the gift of the spirit, revealed to her that she had been married five times and the man she was currently with was not her husband. This revelation astonished the woman, leading her to acknowledge Jesus as a prophet. His ability to see into her life and speak truthfully about her past relationships made her realize that He was not an ordinary man, but one who carried a divine presence.

The encounter between Jesus and the woman at the well serves as a powerful example of crossing boundaries and reaching out to those who are different from us. Just as Jesus walked across an ethnic bridge to engage in conversation with the woman, we are called to interact with people in our community who may not share the same beliefs or perspectives as us. Making a lasting impact requires stepping out of our comfort zones and shining the light of Jesus in places where it may not be expected. Safety and impact are indeed diametrically opposed, and to truly make a difference, we must be willing to embrace discomfort and reach out to others with care and compassion.

Esther’s declaration to “look all through the Bible” and her resolve to face potential peril with the words “if I perish I perish” is a powerful example of courage and determination. Similarly, the story of David and Goliath illustrates the concept of stepping out of one’s comfort zone in order to achieve great things. Goliath’s taunts and threats did not deter David, who bravely faced the giant and emerged victorious. This narrative serves as a reminder that true growth and success often require individuals to confront challenges and push beyond their comfort zones.

The message conveyed in the passage emphasizes the importance of crossing divides, touching lives, and winning battles for God. It encourages individuals to tap into the power of the Holy Ghost and be willing to step out of their comfort zones in order to fulfill their divine assignments. The speaker urges the audience to be proactive in addressing the issues within their communities, emphasizing the need to move beyond personal comfort and safety in order to make a lasting impact. The reference to Aso Rock, the presidential villa in Nigeria, serves as a call to action for individuals to focus on local and community-level concerns rather than solely on national or governmental matters.

The passage also draws attention to the idea that safety and impact are inherently contradictory. It underscores the notion that lasting impact cannot be achieved from a place of comfort and security. The speaker highlights the examples of individuals such as Nelson Mandela, who made significant impact by stepping out of their comfort zones and challenging oppressive systems. This serves as a powerful reminder that meaningful change often requires individuals to confront discomfort and take bold, courageous actions in order to effect positive transformation in their communities and beyond.

As we delve into the annals of church history, it becomes evident that individuals such as Apostle Paul had to step out of their comfort zones in order to spread the gospel to communities that were vastly different from their places of birth. Paul faced persecution for his efforts, yet he remained steadfast in his mission. Similarly, as Christians in the present day, we are called to be prepared to endure persecution in order to effectively reach our communities. It is imperative to understand that true impact cannot be made without crossing the bridge to where the people are. We must be willing to immerse ourselves in their reality, empathize with their struggles, and share in their pain.

Many of us find ourselves ensconced in the comfort of our own lives, reluctant to step into the discomfort of others. However, it is essential to break free from this complacency and actively engage with those in need. This Wednesday, I extend an invitation to join our Switch Midweek event online, where we will have the opportunity to hear from individuals who have embraced the challenge of crossing divides to make a difference. One such individual is a woman who courageously reaches out to prostitutes in the city, sharing her powerful experiences. Another is a man who returns annually to his village in Eastern Nigeria, despite living and working in the bustling city of Lagos, to spread the message of peace to the less privileged.

In conclusion, it is crucial to remember that in order to truly make an impact, we must operate beyond our personal limitations and strive to meet the needs of the greater good. Just as Jesus spoke of living water in John chapter 4, we must approach our mission with the understanding that we carry the power of God within us. By embodying this truth and stepping out in faith, we can bridge divides, reach the marginalized, and bring hope to those in need. Let us heed the call to go beyond ourselves, embrace discomfort, and make a tangible difference in the lives of others.

It is essential to understand the art of transitioning a conversation from a state of contention to one of relevance. This skill is crucial in various aspects of life, including personal relationships, business interactions, and even spiritual guidance. By recognizing the underlying needs of individuals, we can effectively navigate conversations towards a more meaningful and impactful direction. Jesus exemplified this approach when he encountered a woman who was struggling to find fulfillment in her marital life. Instead of focusing on the differences between them, he addressed her deep-seated need for affection and love. This shift in focus allowed Jesus to connect with the woman on a profound level, offering her the opportunity to experience genuine transformation. Similarly, in our interactions with others, it is imperative to discern their felt needs and guide the conversation towards addressing those needs with empathy and understanding.

One of the key principles in moving a conversation from contention to relevance is to shift the focus from differences to needs. Jesus demonstrated this principle when he engaged the Samaritan woman, disregarding the societal barriers that existed between them and instead honing in on her need for fulfillment and love. In contemporary society, this principle remains relevant as we encounter individuals who may be grappling with various challenges and struggles. Whether it is in the context of business dealings, parenting, or other areas of life, the ability to recognize and address the underlying needs of others is paramount. By adopting a mindset that prioritizes understanding and empathy, we can effectively guide conversations towards relevance and meaningful impact.

Furthermore, the power of the Holy Spirit plays a pivotal role in facilitating the transition of conversations from contention to relevance. Jesus relied on the guidance of the Holy Spirit to discern the woman’s needs and offer her the transformative message of hope and fulfillment. Similarly, in our interactions with others, we are called to rely on the wisdom and discernment that comes from the Holy Spirit. This enables us to approach conversations with humility and compassion, seeking to uplift and support those in need. By embracing the influence of the Holy Spirit, we can navigate conversations with a genuine desire to help others maximize their potential and experience positive transformation in their lives. This approach transcends mere knowledge or expertise, as it is rooted in a deep sense of spiritual guidance and empathy towards others.

The current Covid-19 pandemic presents a unique opportunity for The Church of Jesus Christ to demonstrate its commitment to serving and supporting our communities. It is imperative that we emerge from our comfort zones and proactively engage with people in need. Rather than focusing on our differences, we should prioritize addressing the needs of those around us. This is a time for us to respond to the thirst for hope, comfort, and support that many individuals are experiencing. By recognizing and responding to the needs of others, we can truly embody the values of compassion and empathy that are central to our faith.

As members of The Church of Jesus Christ, we are called to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth. It is our responsibility to follow the thirst of those around us and to meet people at their points of need. This may involve reaching out to individuals in various settings, such as online chat rooms, workplaces, or even within our own homes. The “Send Me Campaign” provides a platform for us to actively engage with others and make a positive impact in their lives. By participating in this initiative, we can demonstrate our commitment to serving others and spreading the message of hope and compassion.

When engaging with communities, it is essential to offer both natural and supernatural solutions. Jesus Christ exemplified this approach by not only offering practical support but also demonstrating the power of God through his actions. It is important for us to go beyond simply providing material assistance and to also share the transformative power of faith. By doing so, we can inspire others to recognize the presence of God in their lives and to seek spiritual fulfillment. Our goal should be to leave a lasting impression that reflects the influence of God’s power, rather than simply being perceived as offering worldly advice or support.

Jesus did not just offer self-esteem, but He also offered the Holy Spirit. It was not merely about saying someone is beautiful, but acknowledging that they deserve better than their current situation. The woman in the story already knew that she deserved better, but she was unsure of how to attain it. However, when the power of the Holy Ghost came upon her, she gained clarity and direction. She became a passionate evangelist, spreading the message of transformation that she had experienced.

The original community is essential for nurturing the spirit, soul, and body. Just like Jesus found fulfillment in fulfilling His destiny and passion, we too can experience a similar sense of purpose and energy when we align ourselves with our true calling. When we engage in activities that resonate with our passions, we begin to see the hand of God at work in our lives. Grace begins to increase, and our passion comes alive, driving us to fulfill our purpose in this world.

It is crucial to create an environment that allows our passions to flourish. Just as placing someone with a passion for children in an orphanage can bring out their true calling, God works in our lives to bring out the best in us. As we align ourselves with our passions and purpose, we begin to experience a sense of fulfillment and energy that can only come from walking in our divine destiny. This season is a time for us to discover and embrace our true calling, allowing God’s grace to guide us towards a life filled with purpose and passion.

When numerous individuals are facing challenges and we find ourselves in a position where we can witness their struggles, it is a moment where God is allowing us to empathize with them. It is crucial that we are able to connect with their experiences on a deeper level, allowing their pain to resonate with us and ignite the passion that God has instilled within us to serve Him. Removing our blinders is essential in recognizing that we are more similar than we realize. By acknowledging this commonality, we can better understand and support one another in times of need.

The concept of shared suffering is a universal truth that transcends geographical boundaries. As stated in the scriptures, there is no temptation or affliction that is unique to any one individual; rather, these challenges are common to humanity as a whole. It is imperative that we awaken to this reality and extend compassion and support to those around us who may be enduring similar struggles. By doing so, we embody the grace that God has bestowed upon us, allowing us to bridge the gap between ourselves and others.

Drawing inspiration from the story of Jairus in Mark 5:21, we are reminded of the importance of stepping into the shoes of others and offering our assistance and empathy. Jairus, a synagogue ruler, humbly approached Jesus seeking healing for his ailing daughter, demonstrating a willingness to set aside his own concerns in order to prioritize the well-being of his loved one. This narrative serves as a powerful example of selflessness and compassion, urging us to look beyond our own circumstances and extend a helping hand to those who are in need. In essence, by embracing our shared humanity and demonstrating empathy towards others, we embody the love and grace of God in our interactions with those around us.

The biblical account narrates the story of Jesus being followed by a great multitude, with people thronging around Him. Amidst this crowd, there was a woman who had been suffering from an issue of blood for 12 years. Jairus, a man whose daughter was gravely ill and on the brink of death, was also present. Despite the chaos and pressing needs of those around Him, Jesus remained calm and composed, fully aware of the individual struggles each person faced.

The woman, in her desperation and faith, believed that if she could just touch the hem of Jesus’ garment, she would be healed. Her unwavering faith led her to reach out and touch Jesus, and in that moment, she was indeed made whole. Jesus, sensing the power that had gone out from Him, stopped and inquired about who had touched Him. This action of Jesus, amidst the bustling crowd, highlighted His attentiveness to the needs of each individual, no matter how insignificant they may seem in the grand scheme of things.

Despite the skepticism of those around Him, Jesus acknowledged the woman’s act of faith and listened to her story. He provided her with the opportunity to share her experience and testify to the miraculous healing she had received. This interaction not only demonstrated Jesus’ compassion and willingness to engage with those in need but also served as a reminder that no matter how chaotic or overwhelming our circumstances may be, Jesus is always present, ready to listen, and offer healing and restoration to those who reach out to Him in faith.

It is evident that the woman in this story was going through a tumultuous time in her life, as she was crying, speaking, and praising God all at once. She recounted her experiences of seeking help from various places – doctors, hospitals, churches, and synagogues. Her life seemed to be filled with challenges, from her husband leaving her to her family deserting her, and even running out of money. Despite all this, she found solace in the presence of Jesus, who listened to her with compassion in His heart.

On the other hand, Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, was in a state of agitation and fear. His worst fears seemed to be confirmed when messengers arrived from his house, informing him that his daughter had passed away. However, Jesus intervened in the situation, reassuring Jairus not to be afraid but to believe. This moment marked a turning point in the narrative, where faith and divine intervention intersected to bring about miraculous outcomes.

The story highlights the power of God that transcends individual struggles and unites people in a shared experience of faith and healing. Both the woman with the issue of blood and Jairus found themselves in a moment of divine connection, where their stories intertwined through the intervention of Jesus. This serves as a reminder that God’s power is limitless and available to all who are willing to step out in faith and reach out to others in need. Just as Jesus connected the lives of the woman and Jairus, we are called to bridge divides in our communities and be vessels of God’s love and healing for those around us.
