MUST I BE SAVED?

The journey to discovering one’s purpose and the true meaning of life is intrinsically linked to the concept of salvation, which serves as a gateway to experiencing the positive aspects of the supernatural. It is essential to clarify that there exists a profound distinction between mere morality, various religions, and the essence of true New Testament Christianity. The latter offers a promise of salvation and eternal life to all who accept it. While religions such as Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam are often categorized alongside Christianity, it is crucial to understand that a personal relationship with Jesus transcends the confines of religion. This relationship embodies a life filled with illumination, as articulated in the Bible, which states that “in Him was life, and that life was the light of men.” This light shines in darkness, and darkness cannot overcome it, emphasizing that what we discuss here is not merely a religious practice but a transformative experience.

When Christ arrived, He did not align Himself with the established religious authorities of the time, such as the Pharisees and Sadducees. Instead, He sought out individuals in everyday settings, like the Sea of Galilee, where He encountered fishermen like Peter and aspiring entrepreneurs like James and John. By doing so, He imparted the knowledge of this divine light to those engaged in the practicalities of life. The distinction of Christianity from other religions can be encapsulated in several key aspects, one of which is the virgin birth—a unique claim that has no parallel in other faiths. This miraculous event was not a mere fabrication; it was foretold through numerous Messianic prophecies long before Christ’s arrival, underscoring the divine nature of His mission and the foundation of Christian belief.

Isaiah stands out as a prominent Messianic prophet within the scriptures, having foretold the coming of the Messiah long before His arrival. For example, in Isaiah 53, he articulates profound truths about the suffering and sacrifice of the Messiah, stating that He was “wounded for our transgressions” and “bruised for our iniquities.” This prophetic declaration, made over 200 years prior to the birth of Jesus, reflects a meticulous record-keeping tradition among the prophets, who documented their revelations. They understood that the Messiah’s coming would be characterized by specific attributes and events, all of which were meticulously chronicled in the scriptures. The prophecy of a virgin conceiving, among others, served as a roadmap for identifying the Messiah, underscoring the divine orchestration behind these ancient texts.

The life of Christ can be viewed as a narrative that was foretold through centuries of prophetic writings, which is why, even over 2,000 years later, it remains unchallenged by any substantial evidence to the contrary. This narrative, crafted over hundreds of years, was ultimately fulfilled in the person of Jesus, who lived out the script laid down by the Spirit of God. The assertion that all religions serve the same God is fundamentally flawed, particularly from the perspective of a devout believer in Christ. For instance, some major religions deny the concept of God having a son, asserting instead that humanity exists solely as servants or slaves of God. Such claims starkly contrast with the Christian understanding of the relationship between God and Jesus, highlighting the distinctiveness of Christian belief in the divine nature of Christ.

Jesus asserted that He was sent by God to lead more individuals to Him, making profound declarations such as those found in John 14:6, where He states, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me.” This assertion is unique, as no other figure, whether living or deceased, has made such a definitive claim and maintained it throughout their life. In contrast, Buddha did not proclaim himself as the embodiment of truth; rather, he indicated that he was in pursuit of truth and would reveal aspects of it. Buddhism is built upon four noble truths, which are foundational to its teachings. Furthermore, Jesus’s assertion of His sinlessness is significant; He stated that “the prince of this world comes and finds nothing in me,” a bold declaration that underscores His purity. The Lamb, destined to take away the sins of the world, must be without blemish, and when John the Baptist recognized Jesus at the Jordan River, he proclaimed, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” In the cultural context of Jesus and John’s time, referring to someone as a lamb implied a sacrificial role.

Jesus’s declaration, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up,” reflects His confidence in His mission and the authenticity of His claims. His sinlessness is a testament to His divine nature, as articulated in John 1:1, which states, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” This passage emphasizes that Jesus was present at the creation of all things, and without Him, nothing came into existence. Verse 4 further elaborates that “in Him was life, and that life was the light of men,” indicating His role as a guiding force in a world shrouded in darkness. The narrative continues with the introduction of John the Baptist, who was sent by God to testify about Jesus. The significance of Jesus’s death and resurrection cannot be overstated; no other religious leader has claimed to die for the sins of humanity as He did. The Bible emphasizes that there is no greater love than that of a man who lays down his life for his friends, a love that neither Buddha nor Muhammad exemplified through their actions. These reflections invite deeper contemplation for those seeking to strengthen their faith in Christ.

When engaging in discussions with others, it is essential to maintain a firm stance in your beliefs, particularly as many individuals grapple with uncertainties regarding their faith.

This year, it is crucial to strengthen your commitment to Christ. Some may question the authenticity of the scriptures, pondering how we can be certain of their truth over the years. However, the profound dedication exhibited by individuals who have sacrificed their lives for their convictions serves as a testament to the validity of these beliefs. Those who remain in doubt may find themselves perpetually questioning, as the evidence of faith is often demonstrated through the lives of its adherents. The disciples of Jesus recognized the importance of substantiating His claims through their own experiences and sacrifices, as exemplified by Stephen, who faced martyrdom, and John the Apostle, who endured exile and persecution.

In 1 John 1:1, the author emphasizes the tangible nature of their experiences with Christ, stating that they have seen, touched, and interacted with the Word of Life. This assertion is not merely the perspective of a single individual; rather, it is supported by a collective of witnesses who have risked everything for their faith. In Acts 4:20, the apostles boldly declare their inability to remain silent about what they have witnessed, even in the face of threats. Their conviction stems from firsthand experiences that compel them to share the truth. As we reflect on these testimonies, particularly in the context of 2019 in Lagos, Nigeria, and beyond, it is vital to recognize that salvation is a profound reality, and the death and resurrection of Christ represent the ultimate demonstration of God’s love for humanity.

As we embrace the season of love, it is essential to reflect on our personal experiences with this profound emotion. We must ask ourselves whether we are genuinely engaging with love in a meaningful way. Are we living in the reality of love, or merely going through the motions? It is crucial to consider if we are embodying this love and sharing it with those around us. This introspection is not just important; it is vital for our personal growth and the impact we have on the world. Understanding our relationship with love can lead to a more fulfilling existence, allowing us to become true messengers of love in our communities.

In examining the human experience, individuals can generally be categorized into three distinct groups, each reflecting different motivations and pursuits in life. The first group consists of prosperity seekers, individuals who prioritize comfort, wealth, and material success above all else. These individuals, akin to an upgraded version of Solomon Grundy, may enjoy the luxuries of life but ultimately lack a deeper purpose or fulfillment. The second group includes those I refer to as purpose pursuers, who are driven by the desire to achieve personal or corporate goals. While the pursuit of purpose can be commendable, it becomes futile when it lacks direction or a foundational belief system. Many young people today, particularly millennials, are eager to make an impact, especially in social causes, yet without a spiritual anchor, their pursuits may lead to a hollow existence.

It is crucial to recognize that addressing physical poverty is insufficient if spiritual poverty remains unaddressed, as true fulfillment comes from a relationship with Christ.

The pursuit of purpose becomes futile in the absence of a defined agenda; without a guiding framework, efforts toward any cause can seem aimless. Individuals often find themselves unwittingly aligned with agendas that shape their lives and the broader world, whether they are aware of it or not. For instance, one may enter into marriage, believing it to be a personal commitment, yet remain oblivious to the underlying agenda that the institution itself may represent. Similarly, in a professional context, an employee may focus solely on personal advancement or job satisfaction, while the overarching goals of the organization—driven by agenda setters—remain hidden from their view. This lack of awareness can lead to a life spent fulfilling objectives that do not resonate with one’s true values or aspirations.

To alter this trajectory, it is essential to recognize and embrace a higher purpose, such as the transformative gift of salvation, which can provide access to a more profound agenda that transcends worldly influences. This newfound perspective allows individuals to engage with agendas that are not merely dictated by societal pressures or the machinations of powerful entities. In today’s world, various agendas—ranging from religious extremism to racial supremacy—illustrate the complexity of the influences at play. Even those who identify as atheists may unknowingly contribute to agendas that serve the interests of others, becoming mere instruments in a larger scheme. It is crucial to discern these dynamics and strive for a more enlightened understanding of one’s role in the world, recognizing that agendas can be both constructive and destructive.

Christ has a specific mission, and for those who are fully committed to following Him, every action must align with this divine purpose. It is crucial for Christians to recognize their calling to lead lives that contribute to the advancement of God’s kingdom on earth. This involves reaching out to those who have not yet accepted the faith and sharing the love of God, which is central to His agenda. As stated in Matthew 28:18-20, all authority in heaven and on earth has been entrusted to Christ, who commands His followers to make disciples of all nations, preach the gospel, and baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Individuals face a choice: to live in accordance with this heavenly agenda or to pursue a path that diverges from it. However, it is important to acknowledge that one cannot exist without an agenda; rather, one may simply be unaware of it. Every person, whether conscious of it or not, is fulfilling some form of agenda in their daily lives.

Moreover, when one chooses to follow Christ, it is imperative to consciously align one’s life with His intended purpose rather than merely seeking personal prosperity or a sense of purpose devoid of divine direction. God expects faithfulness in the stewardship of one’s influence, and Christians who become preoccupied with material gain or self-serving ambitions risk neglecting their responsibility to guide others toward the right agenda. Ultimately, Christ has entrusted His followers with the ministry of reconciliation, which is a fundamental aspect of His mission. This calling compels believers to act as if Christ were present within them, actively working to reconcile humanity to Himself. Therefore, Christians are encouraged to embody the love of Jesus and dedicate their lives to fulfilling God’s original intentions and agenda.

Every individual possesses immense worth in the eyes of God, and it is essential to reflect on whether we value souls in the same manner that Jesus did. In Matthew 16:26, it is poignantly stated, “What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul?” This verse underscores the singular importance of salvation, emphasizing that there are no alternatives; one is either saved or not. It is crucial for us to evaluate whether our lives align with the principles for which Christ sacrificed Himself. Are we truly living for the values that Christ upheld? This is a vital consideration, as failing to do so may lead to a life that feels entirely unfulfilled. I pray that your life will not be in vain, and I urge you to take a moment to reflect on this. Let us bow our heads for a moment of prayer. I wish to pray for someone here today, regardless of the time or place. I challenge you to embrace the reality that there is no substitute for salvation; you are either saved or you are not. I believe that you have encountered this message and this community today because God desires for you to make a pivotal decision.
