Frequently, I find myself in situations where I am about to enter a meeting, only to be interrupted by someone insisting that I listen to them immediately. This often results in my having to apologize to those waiting for me, as the individual could have sought assistance from someone else.
It is disheartening to be judged as a poor pastor simply because I cannot accommodate every request at that moment. While I hold the title of pastor, I am not omnipotent, omniscient, or omnipresent. I can only be present in one location at a time, despite the spiritual connection I strive to maintain. It is crucial for others to understand that, while I aim to provide support and guidance, I am still human and limited in my capabilities. The expectation that I should always be available can lead to misunderstandings and unfair judgments about my character.
A phone call from an individual led me to believe that it might be the person I had arranged for my transportation, as my usual contacts were unable to pick me up from the airport on that particular day. To my surprise, the caller was in a state of distress, crying and expressing feelings of despair. She explained that she had been misled by a friend of her husband regarding an investment opportunity, which prompted her to withdraw her father’s pension and gratuity, as well as funds from her uncle. The gravity of her situation was evident as she conveyed her feelings of hopelessness, stating that she felt suicidal and urgently needed assistance, fearing that the company she had invested in had collapsed.
