GRACE FOR PIONEERING SPIRIT AND ENABLING RELATIONSHIP
Today, I wish to discuss the intertwined concepts of enabling relationships and a pioneering spirit, particularly in the context of our faith and the teachings of the Word of God. As we delve into this subject, I encourage you to remain open to the transformative power of these graces, which are profoundly present within the Elevation Church. It is through our collective engagement with the Scriptures that we can truly experience the manifestation of these divine graces. As you listen to the preaching of the Word, I invite you to prepare your heart, for the grace that accompanies this message will enter you in a remarkable way, leading to a greater realization of its effects in your life. Let us begin our exploration with Nehemiah Chapter 2, a pivotal text that illustrates the essence of visionary leadership and the responsibilities that come with it.
Nehemiah stands out as a significant figure in the Old Testament, embodying the qualities of a visionary pioneer—someone whom God entrusts with critical projects that shape destinies. His life exemplifies the traits of a person endowed with pioneering grace, demonstrating that effective stewardship of one’s life is essential for being entrusted with divine assignments. Many individuals struggle with maintaining control over their lives and destinies, which can hinder their ability to be stewards of God’s mandates. However, those who diligently manage their lives and remain faithful in their responsibilities are often chosen to fulfill divine purposes. God seeks individuals who are willing to partner with Him in significant endeavors, as illustrated by His search for those who could play a role in the coming of the Messiah. This principle underscores the importance of stewardship in our spiritual journeys and the opportunities that arise when we align ourselves with God’s will.
In the historical context of Bethlehem or Jerusalem, it is evident that many young women existed, yet among them, God chose one who was distinguished and favored above all others—Mary, the mother of Christ. This selection suggests that Mary must have engaged in a manner of life that aligned with her divine purpose, indicating a stewardship of her destiny that prequalified her for such an honor. While it is clear that favor found her, it is equally important to recognize the active role she played in her own life choices. One notable aspect of her stewardship was her unwavering commitment to her virginity, which set her apart. Additionally, her ability to respond thoughtfully to the angel’s message—expressing her confusion with the question, “How shall this be, since I do not know a man?”—demonstrates her presence of mind and willingness to engage with the divine plan rather than dismiss it outright.
Mary’s response reflects a profound understanding of the implications of her situation, as she did not shy away from the potential ridicule and shame that could accompany her divine calling. Many individuals struggle to endure societal judgment for the sake of their faith, which raises the question of how one can expect God to entrust them with significant responsibilities if they are unwilling to bear such burdens. This notion resonates with my own experiences; I recall a moment during my undergraduate engineering studies when I returned from industrial training and delivered a presentation that left a lasting impression on my professors. Their admiration for my work, particularly in presenting cutting-edge technology, was a source of pride for me, culminating in a perfect score. This experience underscores the importance of preparation and the willingness to embrace challenges, much like Mary did, in order to fulfill one’s purpose.
A classmate approached me with concern, questioning my commitment to my future as a pastor. He expressed confusion over my decision to retain five points that he believed rightfully belonged to our group, urging me to relinquish them. I reassured him that my aspirations to enter the ministry were steadfast, and while I might engage in temporary work, my ultimate goal was to serve in a pastoral capacity. I emphasized that my life choices should not be viewed through the lens of shame; rather, they should be seen as a source of pride. I am determined to excel academically and professionally, but my true calling lies in serving God, a conviction I hold dear despite the skepticism of others.
In conversations with family, particularly with my older brother who works as an engineer in Scotland, I have faced pressure to conform to conventional career paths. During a visit, he even offered me a ride on a private jet, suggesting that I should pursue a similar lifestyle. However, I felt a strong sense of divine calling that I could not ignore, perceiving his words as a potential distraction from my true purpose. I remained resolute, mentally rejecting the temptation to be swayed by material success. Interestingly, my brother has since embraced a pastoral role himself, which reinforces my belief that God is actively seeking individuals in our generation who are willing to embrace pioneering grace and fulfill their divine destinies.
Individuals who possess a unique perspective are often able to comprehend situations in a distinct manner, allowing them to engage with challenges in ways that others may not.
This ability is not confined to any single domain; rather, it spans various fields such as oil and gas, education, healthcare, and politics. In each of these areas, there exists the potential for pioneering efforts that challenge the status quo and forge new paths toward progress. The aspiration is to elevate a nation from its current struggles to a more prosperous future, and it is hoped that new leaders will emerge to fulfill this vision. It is a prayer that through the collective efforts of the community, particularly within the church, God will inspire and empower these new pioneers in the political arena.
In the context of Nehemiah, as illustrated in chapter 2, verse 17 of the New Living Translation, we see a compelling example of leadership and vision. Nehemiah, having been taken captive and serving under King Artaxerxes, received troubling news about the state of Jerusalem, where the walls had fallen and the gates had been destroyed. Recognizing the dire implications of a city without walls, which left it vulnerable to various threats, Nehemiah felt a profound sense of responsibility. He understood that the fate of Jerusalem was at stake and was moved by a divine calling to take action. His declaration to the people, urging them to rebuild the walls and restore dignity to their city, resonates with a broader message: that individuals today, whether in their families or communities, are called to confront and rectify disgraceful situations. God seeks to empower each person to be a catalyst for change, addressing issues that affect not only their immediate surroundings but also future generations.
Nehemiah serves as a profound example of recognizing that when God extends a call, He simultaneously bestows the grace necessary to fulfill that calling. This principle was exemplified in Nehemiah’s mission to rally the people of Jerusalem, including those who seemed the least likely to contribute, to undertake the formidable task of reconstructing the city walls within an astonishing timeframe of just 52 days. During my time in business school, I studied project management extensively, and Nehemiah’s endeavors can be aptly categorized as a project, characterized by a defined beginning and end, allocated resources, and a clear understanding of stakeholders. Despite being an ancient figure, Nehemiah’s actions resonate with the way God desires us to live today, as many individuals embark on initiatives without the pioneering spirit necessary to see them through to completion.
The essence of a pioneering spirit is the ability to initiate and successfully conclude endeavors, the notion of pioneering grace remains accessible to all, particularly within the community of faith.
The essence of a pioneering spirit is the ability to initiate and successfully conclude endeavors, as demonstrated by Nehemiah’s remarkable achievement in rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. There are individuals who may find themselves caught in a cycle of starting projects that remain unfinished, but the time has come for a transformative shift in this pattern. The era of merely “touch and go” is over; instead, a new season of “touch and finish” is upon you, empowering you to complete what you have started. God is actively seeking pioneers akin to Nehemiah, and while time constraints prevent a deeper exploration, I encourage you to delve into Chapters 2 and 3 of the Book of Nehemiah for further insight. At Elevation Church, we embrace the mission of nurturing individuals who embody this pioneering spirit, enabling them to undertake transformative projects that will leave a lasting impact on future generations.
In the biblical narrative, we observe a range of individuals who have pioneered both positive and negative actions. For instance, Adam is often recognized as the originator of sin, while Cain is noted for his act of murder, illustrating the darker aspects of human innovation. Conversely, figures such as Abraham exemplify the pioneering of righteousness; the scriptures affirm that Abraham’s faith in God was credited to him as righteousness. Furthermore, Jesus is heralded as the pioneer of salvation, as it is stated that there is no other name under heaven through which humanity can attain salvation except His. The act of creation itself is attributed to God, as described in Genesis 1:1, where it is proclaimed that God created the heavens and the earth, bringing forth light from darkness. This foundational act of pioneering not only established the physical world but also introduced the concept of light, which symbolizes life and hope.
In our contemporary context, the notion of pioneering grace remains accessible to all, particularly within the community of faith. It is essential to foster an environment that encourages and nurtures positive pioneering within individuals, especially the younger generation. As parents, it is crucial to recognize that many of the aspirations and ventures we now discourage in our children were once paths we ourselves embarked upon at a young age. For example, starting a business at the age of seventeen or engaging in innovative projects during university were once seen as commendable pursuits. However, in an effort to shield our children from potential failures, we may inadvertently stifle their pioneering spirit by providing them with overly protective measures. It is vital to strike a balance that allows for exploration and creativity, thereby empowering the next generation to embrace their own pioneering journeys.
It is essential to provide individuals with the opportunity to explore their potential, much like an eagle that takes its eaglet to great heights and intentionally releases it to test its ability to fly. This process not only allows the eaglet to develop the necessary strength to flap its wings but also ensures that the eagle is there to catch it before it falls. This method of gradual exposure and support is crucial for growth and development. As we approach January, I am eagerly anticipating a series focused on the eagle, a theme that I am already conceptualizing and am genuinely excited about. The New Year promises to bring forth remarkable developments, and I am enthusiastic about the possibilities that lie ahead. While I refrain from revealing too much at this moment, I assure you that in the coming weeks, we will begin to introduce the overarching theme for the upcoming year and the series that will mark its commencement.
As we prepare for 2024, I am filled with anticipation for what God has in store for us. It is not uncommon for some to question my seemingly restless spirit, but when one is in communion with God, it is necessary to navigate between the future and the present. God transcends time, encompassing the past, present, and future simultaneously; He is the Alpha and Omega, as well as everything in between. This divine perspective often challenges our understanding and encourages us to stretch our minds and aspirations. I urge you to engage with those around you and inquire about their pioneering efforts, ensuring that your demeanor reflects positivity and encouragement. It is easy to become complacent in our journeys, settling into comfort rather than pursuing growth. In Romans chapter 1, verses 6-8, God addressed the Jews for their tendency to settle in a specific location, highlighting the importance of remaining dynamic and open to new possibilities in our spiritual journeys.
The scripture in Deuteronomy 1:6 recounts a significant moment when the Lord addressed the Israelites at Horeb, emphasizing that they had lingered at this mountain for far too long. This message serves as a reminder that while Horeb may represent a place of comfort or familiarity, it is not the final destination. The Lord’s directive to the people was clear: they were to cease their prolonged stay and embark on a new journey toward the mountains of the Amorites and beyond. This call to action signifies that there are greater opportunities and challenges awaiting them in the plains, mountains, and lowlands, extending even to the land of the Canaanites and beyond the Euphrates River. The essence of this message is that Horeb, while important, is merely one of many mountains that God has prepared for His people.
In reflecting on this passage, it becomes evident that individuals often find themselves settling in their own “Horebs,” whether due to age, complacency, or a sense of fulfillment. As one approaches later stages of life, there can be a tendency to believe that past achievements are sufficient, leading to a reluctance to pursue new passions or ventures. However, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob remains ever-present, ready to inspire and invigorate even those who may feel they have reached their peak. The challenge lies in the choice between remaining stagnant or embracing the divine call to explore new horizons, much like Mary did in her acceptance of God’s will. This narrative encourages believers to remain open to God’s guidance and to actively seek out the new paths He has laid before them.
The inquiry regarding how these matters shall unfold is met with the assurance that divine intervention is at hand. The Almighty has declared that His power will envelop you, bestowing upon you the grace necessary to embark on new ventures. This transformative experience ignites a renewed fervor within you, infusing you with fresh energy and the ability to navigate intricate challenges and untangle perilous circumstances. As you engage with complex financial matters and other daunting issues, you will come to recognize that you have indeed achieved a breakthrough. This is the essence of divine workings, and for those who are placing their trust in God for this grace, it is abundantly available.Â
It is imperative to understand that God’s plans for you are far from complete. Regardless of your age or current circumstances, His purpose remains active in your life until your very last breath. The determination of your life’s conclusion rests solely with Him, as it is not within His will for you to depart prematurely. For anyone who may be grappling with thoughts of despair or contemplating suicide, I stand in opposition to that spirit, declaring its influence over your life to be severed. You are destined to live and fulfill the promises that God has laid out for you. The life of God is being imparted to you now, dispelling any suicidal thoughts and affirming your right to a future filled with hope and purpose.
It is essential to reject a mindset of complacency and instead adopt a perspective that seeks greater challenges and opportunities. Just as the divine guidance provided to the Israelites was aimed at overcoming their inclination to settle in the wilderness, individuals today are encouraged to transcend limitations and pursue new ventures. The notion of settling for a singular business or project is contrary to the expansive vision that is available. Although current endeavors may seem prolonged or challenging, they should be viewed as the beginning of a more significant journey rather than a conclusion. Embracing a pioneering spirit is crucial for those who wish to ascend to new heights in their spiritual and personal lives, as God embodies the essence of a pioneer.
A pioneer is characterized by their willingness to explore uncharted territories and to innovate within various fields.
They are the individuals who challenge the status quo, asking questions that provoke thought and inspire change. The pioneering spirit is not limited to entrepreneurs; it can manifest in various aspects of life, including parenting and relationships. When one receives an idea from God and acts upon it, they are engaging in pioneering work, regardless of the context. It is vital to break free from negative cycles, such as divorce, and instead strive to create lasting, positive legacies within families. Ultimately, pioneering is about collaborating with the divine to fulfill a higher purpose and to open doors to new possibilities that enrich lives and communities.
Numerous fathers, including my own late father, have played a crucial role in advancing education within our families, achieving levels of academic attainment that their own parents could not access. This pioneering spirit has ensured that every child in our lineage has had the opportunity to pursue education, fostering a culture where our children are also encouraged to attend school. It is essential to recognize the presence of remarkable pioneers in our midst, as we cannot afford to be a generation that relinquishes this pioneering spirit in favor of complacency. Therefore, it is imperative for us to continually pray for our children, as there are forces at work attempting to lead the younger generation towards negative paths, potentially becoming pioneers of sin in unprecedented ways, which we must fervently reject.
The Apostle Paul, in Romans 1:30, highlights the troubling characteristics of those who stray from righteousness, describing them as backbiters, haters of God, and inventors of new forms of sin. This scripture serves as a reminder that disobedience to parental guidance is a grave concern, and we must strive to ensure that such behaviors do not define our households. It is vital to remain vigilant and proactive in our guidance, echoing the sentiments of the song that encourages us to continually speak positivity over our children. The current generation faces the risk of being overindulged, which can stifle their pioneering spirit. Instead, we must cultivate a positive pioneering attitude, as emphasized by Paul in 1 Timothy 4:12, where he urges the youth to be exemplary in their conduct, speech, love, faith, and moral integrity, thereby setting a standard for others to follow.
This correspondence from Paul to Timothy serves as a powerful encouragement for the young leader, instilling in him a pioneering spirit. Paul emphasizes the importance of not allowing others to undermine Timothy’s youth, urging him to rise above any negativity and embrace his potential. Despite being in his early twenties, Timothy took on significant responsibilities, such as planting and pastoring churches, demonstrating that age does not define capability. The relationship between Paul and Timothy is pivotal; Paul, as a mentor, recognizes and nurtures Timothy’s abilities, reminding him that he possesses the necessary qualities to succeed. This mentorship is crucial, as it empowers Timothy to take initiative and engage fully in his calling without waiting for external validation or support.
In contemporary contexts, it is essential for parents and guardians to adopt a similar approach, encouraging young individuals to navigate their own paths. When faced with challenges, rather than providing constant assistance, it may be more beneficial to prompt them to “figure it out.” This approach fosters independence and resilience, qualities that are vital for personal growth. Over-parenting can lead to what is known as failure-to-thrive syndrome, where individuals struggle to develop essential life skills due to excessive support. It is imperative to strike a balance, allowing young people the space to make decisions and learn from their experiences, thereby equipping them with the capacity to make sound choices in the future. By creating a supportive framework while granting autonomy, parents can help their children thrive and develop into capable adults.
When individuals encounter setbacks, they often adjust their course, much like how Google Maps recalibrates when a driver misses a turn. This technology provides an alternative route, ensuring that the destination remains reachable, albeit with a slight delay. The experience serves as a reminder to be more attentive while driving, so as to avoid missing critical junctions. It is essential to grasp the underlying message: proactive intervention can prevent unnecessary complications. The analogy extends to the importance of guidance and support, as sometimes we must take the initiative to steer others in the right direction, especially when they may not recognize the need for change.Â
The concept of embracing a pioneering spirit is crucial, particularly in the context of nurturing the ambitions of younger generations. Many successful entrepreneurs who began their journeys in their twenties often hesitate to allow their children the same opportunities, imposing age restrictions that stifle creativity and innovation. This reluctance can extinguish the pioneering spirit that is vital for progress. Reflecting on the past, many of us took on leadership roles in our teenage years, gathering peers and influencing their lives positively. It is imperative to encourage and empower young individuals, as they possess the potential to drive change. The words of George Bernard Shaw resonate here, emphasizing that true progress is often achieved by those who dare to challenge the status quo, much like Thomas Edison, whose relentless pursuit of innovation ultimately led to the creation of the incandescent bulb that we now take for granted.
The evolution of technology, particularly the transition to LED, exemplifies the relentless pursuit of innovation. It raises a profound question about perseverance in the face of repeated failures; while many may attempt something a mere ten times before conceding defeat, those with a pioneering spirit remain undeterred. They possess an unwavering belief that their efforts are part of a greater, almost divine project. This conviction drives them to continue refining their ideas and adapting the world to their vision, rather than conforming to the prevailing norms. In a society where many choose to align themselves with the status quo, it is essential to recognize that true progress often requires a radical departure from conventional thinking. The essence of this pioneering mindset lies in the understanding that one is in a covenant with a higher purpose, compelling them to reshape their environment rather than passively accept it.
This notion of unreasonableness is crucial for maximizing the potential of a pioneering spirit. History has shown that all significant advancements stem from individuals who dared to challenge the limitations imposed by society. The conveniences we enjoy today, such as mobile communication, are the fruits of the labor of those who were willing to confront and adapt the forces of nature to their needs. As a community of faith, we aspire to push the boundaries of what is possible, striving to inspire and uplift others in their spiritual journeys. Events like the exponential conference serve as a platform for like-minded individuals to come together, fostering an environment where innovative ideas can flourish. It is this kind of church—one that embraces the challenge of transformation—that has the potential to alter the course of a nation, as opposed to merely perpetuating a cycle of decline.
It is essential to recognize the underlying message regarding the current state of the church and its role within society. There is a growing concern that the church has become disconnected from its fundamental purpose as the moral compass of the nation. The focus should not merely be on establishing churches indiscriminately; rather, the aim should be to create institutions that foster genuine progress and human development, ultimately enhancing the potential of individuals. The frustration arises from the observation that, despite the proliferation of churches in various regions, particularly in Nigeria, the communities remain impoverished and neglected. The presence of these churches does not equate to the manifestation of divine life; instead, it highlights a dissonance between religious activity and the spiritual vitality that should characterize a thriving community.
Furthermore, the essence of the Kingdom of God transcends mere rituals or superficial practices; it is rooted in righteousness, peace, and joy, as articulated in scripture. Righteousness serves as the foundation upon which nations can be exalted, while sin brings about disgrace. The questions surrounding the apparent lack of revival in certain areas reflect a deeper need for a transformative approach. There is a call for individuals within the church to embrace a pioneering spirit, one that seeks to redefine the narrative and instigate meaningful change. This pioneering grace is accessible to all who are willing to respond to divine guidance and engage with the contemporary movements of the Spirit. It is imperative for members of the church to cultivate this spirit of innovation and obedience, thereby contributing to a more profound and impactful expression of faith in their respective communities.
In Acts chapter 10, a significant encounter unfolds between two individuals, highlighting a pivotal moment in the early Christian church. Cornelius, a Gentile and a devout man, is depicted as someone whose charitable deeds and prayers have reached God, serving as a memorial before Him. This chapter illustrates God’s intention to extend salvation beyond the Jewish community, as Cornelius is chosen to be the first Gentile recipient of the Holy Spirit’s blessings. The narrative emphasizes that, while Jesus initially focused His ministry on the “lost sheep of the house of Israel,” the divine plan was to include Gentiles as well. This shift is crucial, as it marks the beginning of a broader mission to spread the gospel to all nations.
Simultaneously, God orchestrates events to connect Cornelius with Peter, a key figure in the early church. While Cornelius receives a vision instructing him to summon Peter, the apostle is also experiencing a divine revelation. As Peter prays, he falls into a trance and receives a vision that challenges his preconceived notions about purity and the inclusion of Gentiles in God’s plan. This moment is not merely a result of Peter’s physical hunger but is a profound spiritual experience facilitated by the Holy Spirit. The convergence of these two narratives underscores the transformative nature of God’s message, as He prepares both Cornelius and Peter for a groundbreaking mission that will redefine the boundaries of faith and community within the early church.
There exists a particular state of awareness that often manifests around one o’clock in the afternoon during a fasting period. It is during this time, specifically between twelve and one, that the reality of fasting becomes most palpable. Unlike the early hours of the morning or the later hours of the evening, when the body has already adapted to the absence of food, this midday moment serves as a divine invitation for introspection and revelation. This phenomenon is reminiscent of the biblical account of Peter, who experienced a trance in which the heavens opened before him. In this vision, a sheet descended filled with various animals, challenging the dietary laws established in Leviticus. Despite his initial resistance, Peter was urged by God to partake in what he had always considered unclean, illustrating a profound shift in understanding and obedience to divine instruction.
As Peter returned to his dwelling, he was soon visited by messengers from Cornelius, prompting a pivotal moment of realization. God communicated to Peter that he should not regard Cornelius as an outsider due to his Gentile status, leading him to visit Cornelius’s home. There, amidst discussions about faith and the teachings of Jesus, the Holy Spirit descended upon Cornelius and his family, resulting in an outpouring of prayer and worship. This unexpected event left Peter astonished, as it occurred while he was still speaking. The narrative underscores a broader theme of divine initiative, as God seeks individuals willing to act as pioneers for transformative change. In contemporary society, there is a pressing need for reform across various sectors, including the legal system, healthcare, and education. God is actively searching for those who are ready to embrace and facilitate this change, signaling a new era of divine purpose and action.
There is an urgent need for significant reforms in our national infrastructure, particularly in urban areas where populations can reach up to 20 million. The current state of our roads, often limited to a single lane, creates immense challenges for mobility and accessibility. This is not a critique of our leaders; rather, it is a call for innovative thinking and action. We require individuals with a pioneering spirit who are willing to step outside traditional political roles. The architects of America’s growth were not solely politicians; they were visionaries and entrepreneurs who took risks and built the foundational structures of our society. For instance, figures like John D. Rockefeller exemplify this spirit, demonstrating that transformative change often comes from those driven by a sense of purpose and vision, rather than from the political sphere alone.
It is essential to recognize that while prayer plays a vital role in our spiritual lives, it must be accompanied by tangible action. Angels may be dispatched in response to our prayers, but it is human beings who must take the initiative to build and improve our infrastructure. We are currently in a season where the power of prayer is amplified, yet we must not fall into the misconception that divine intervention will replace our responsibilities. It is unwise to assume that God will accomplish what He has entrusted to us as individuals. The spirit of this kingdom emphasizes that there are tasks meant for humanity to undertake, and it is our duty to engage actively in the work that needs to be done. By embracing this responsibility, we can align our actions with the divine vision and contribute to the betterment of our communities.
He will provide us with the necessary support to undertake this task, but it is imperative that we take the initiative ourselves. It is essential to recognize that there are actions that individuals must undertake for divine intervention to occur. This concept underscores the importance of a pioneering spirit, characterized by audacity and courage. The biblical account in Numbers 13 and 14 illustrates this through the figures of Joshua and Caleb, who were sent to scout the land. While their companions expressed fear and doubt, citing the presence of giants as a reason for their hesitance, Joshua and Caleb demonstrated remarkable resolve. Caleb, in particular, urged the people to move forward without delay, asserting their capability to conquer the land. It is my hope that the spirit of Caleb inspires someone here today, empowering them to embrace a similar mindset.
The distinct spirit that Joshua and Caleb possessed is emblematic of a pioneering attitude, one that thrives on courage and boldness. This spirit enables individuals to transcend complex challenges and not be easily swayed by the prevailing anxieties of the time. The pervasive issues surrounding mental health often stem from an inability to rise above emotional turmoil, leading many to succumb to feelings of overwhelm. In contrast, Joshua and Caleb exemplified a refusal to be intimidated by their circumstances. They acknowledged the giants but chose to reject the fear that paralyzed others, demonstrating that true strength lies in the ability to rise above one’s emotions and draw from a deeper, more resilient source within. As we reflect on their example, may we also cultivate a spirit of courage that empowers us to face our own giants with confidence and determination.
It is acknowledged that the Anaks, the offspring of the Giants, were indeed present; however, it is essential to dismiss any lingering feelings of intimidation they may evoke. It is imperative to encourage one another to rise above such feelings, allowing the Holy Spirit to take control of our emotions and actions. This call to action should resonate within us, prompting us to elevate our perspectives and embrace a mindset of victory. The essence of this message is to glorify Jesus, recognizing that true pioneers embody a counter-cultural spirit. They transcend their immediate feelings and perceptions, envisioning possibilities beyond the current reality. Their proactive approach permeates every aspect of life, whether at home, in the workplace, or within ministry, as they continuously seek innovative solutions to challenges.
Furthermore, I urge you to reflect on the pioneering grace that exists within our community at Elevation Church, where honoring Jesus and serving God is paramount. This grace is not merely a passive experience; it requires active participation. The scripture from Acts 4:13 illustrates how Peter and John, despite their lack of formal education, exhibited remarkable boldness, leading others to recognize their time spent with Christ. This should inspire us to cultivate a similar boldness in our lives, ensuring that our faith is evident and impactful. It is crucial to acknowledge that the spirit of a pioneer thrives within enabling relationships, as demonstrated in the narratives of Nehemiah, Timothy, and Elisha. Each of these figures benefited from mentors and supporters who facilitated their journeys, underscoring the importance of community in fostering growth and resilience in our spiritual endeavors.
As I conclude my remarks today, I urge you to remain vigilant for the presence of God in this season, as He is poised to introduce mentors, coaches, and gatekeepers into your life. These three pivotal relationships are essential for fostering the pioneering grace that will enable you to navigate your journey effectively. A mentor, possessing greater experience and insight, provides invaluable guidance and shares personal stories that can illuminate your path. In contrast, a coach focuses on unlocking your potential in specific areas, enhancing your performance, and driving you toward success. I pray that God blesses you with both mentors and coaches, as their influence can be transformative.
It is crucial to recognize the importance of these roles, regardless of your current status in your career or business. Even the world’s top athletes, such as the number one tennis player or the leading footballer, rely on coaches to refine their skills and maintain their competitive edge. No elite athlete reaches the pinnacle of their sport without the support of a coach. This principle applies universally; there is always potential within you that requires awakening and development. Until an athlete retires, the need for coaching persists. Therefore, I encourage you to embrace the concept of mentorship and coaching, understanding that every great leader or achiever has had someone to guide them. Remember, every Elisha needs an Elijah, and every Joshua needs a Moses; you too require a coach to support your growth and spiritual journey.
It is essential to recognize the importance of having individuals in your life who can provide guidance and support, particularly during challenging times. One should not merely dismiss the events unfolding around them; rather, it is crucial to seek out mentors and leaders who can offer valuable insights and direction. This is the very purpose of having spiritual figures within our community, including myself as your pastor, dedicated to assisting you in navigating your spiritual journey. The presence of a coach or mentor is invaluable, as they serve as gatekeepers who control access to critical connections and information that can significantly influence your path to success. I pray that you are blessed with such gatekeepers in your life, individuals who will facilitate your growth and emergence.
Reflecting on my own experiences, I have been fortunate to have exceptional mentors and coaches throughout my journey. Since 1991, I have been under the guidance of Pastor Sam Adeyemi, who has played a pivotal role in my development over the past 32 years. His mentorship has provided me with a clear direction, ensuring that I remain on the right path. Recently, I shared a testimony about a remarkable opportunity that arose when I received a call from a prominent church in the United States. The pastor informed me about an exclusive network comprised of leaders from some of the largest churches worldwide, all of whom exemplify integrity and longevity in their ministries. The invitation to join this esteemed network in Cape Town this March was both unexpected and humbling, underscoring the significance of surrounding oneself with influential and principled individuals.
During a recent visit to Cape Town, I found myself among a gathering of approximately 150 pastors from various parts of the globe, uniquely positioned as the sole representative from Nigeria. The circumstances of my presence in this distinguished assembly were somewhat serendipitous. Among the attendees, I encountered an old acquaintance, an apostle from Rwanda, who informed me that he had been part of this network for several years. He spoke highly of the transformative experiences that take place within this community. The event primarily focused on the exchange of knowledge, featuring a retired pastor from the Philippines, who at the age of 75, shared insights about the successful transition of leadership in his mega church, which continues to flourish. This gathering included influential figures who play significant roles in shaping the destinies of nations.
One particularly memorable moment occurred during a session with Pastor Phil Dooley, the leader of Hillsong. As we engaged in conversation, I found myself reflecting on the remarkable nature of my circumstances—how a single phone call had led me to this moment. It became evident that the grace of opportunity is present in every area of life, especially for those who serve as gatekeepers. I prayed for divine favor, that those present would be found faithful in their endeavors. I expressed a desire for pioneering grace to manifest in their lives, enabling them to initiate positive changes within their families and communities. I declared that they would not experience failure or divorce, but rather, that their enterprises would flourish and new opportunities would arise in their careers. I encouraged everyone to rise, symbolizing a collective readiness to embrace the blessings and possibilities that lie ahead.
