IT’S TIME TO PROTECT YOUR JOY

In the book of Habakkuk, chapter 3, verses 17 to 19, it is articulated that even in the face of adversity—where the fig tree does not bear fruit, the vines are barren, the olive harvest fails, and the fields do not yield sustenance—one can still find a reason to rejoice in the Lord. The passage emphasizes a profound declaration of faith, asserting that despite the absence of material blessings and the challenges that may arise, the individual will choose to take joy in the God of their salvation. The Lord is portrayed as a source of strength, enabling the believer to rise above their circumstances, akin to a deer gracefully navigating high terrain. This message resonates particularly as we approach the New Year, suggesting that the foundation for a positive outlook must begin during the Christmas season, where intentionality in safeguarding one’s joy becomes paramount.

As we reflect on the significance of Christmas, it is essential to remember the peace and joy that Jesus brought into the world.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of holiday festivities, or even during times of personal isolation and hardship, it is easy to lose sight of the true essence of this season. Many families may find themselves fractured, and some individuals may be estranged from loved ones. However, Christmas serves as an opportune moment to reach out, whether through a simple text or a message, to reconnect with those from whom we have distanced ourselves. It is a time to extend grace, even to those who may have caused us pain, as the spirit of the season calls for reconciliation and joy. The adversary seeks to rob us of our joy, as highlighted in John 10:10, but it is crucial to recognize that true fulfillment is not found in material wealth but in the joy that comes from our relationship with God and the love we share with others.

When the adversary seeks to grasp your financial resources, it is primarily an attempt to rob you of your joy. While financial losses can be recovered, the loss of joy is far more detrimental, as it depletes your strength and vitality. The Scriptures affirm that the joy of the Lord serves as your strength, and without it, your ability to dream and envision new possibilities diminishes significantly. Therefore, it is crucial to prioritize the safeguarding of your joy, especially during this festive season. Ensure that this Christmas is filled with joy, and take deliberate steps to prevent anything from encroaching upon your happiness. A brighter year lies ahead, and this message is not merely a platitude offered by spiritual leaders; it is a profound truth rooted in the belief that God has a purposeful plan for each of our lives.

The assurance of divine intention is encapsulated in the promise that God knows the thoughts and plans He has for us. When Mary inquired about the miraculous events to come, the angel reassured her that the power of the Most High would envelop her. However, one must be cautious, as succumbing to despair and negativity can create a barrier that hinders the Holy Spirit’s influence in our lives. Embracing darkness and sorrow, particularly in response to life’s challenges, will not allow the divine power to manifest effectively. Instead, it is essential to concentrate on the Word of God and affirm to oneself that there is a greater plan at work. The sacrifice of Jesus signifies the foundation of that plan, and it is imperative not to remain immobilized by past disappointments or familial strife. By actively choosing to protect your joy, you can prevent external circumstances from undermining your happiness and fulfillment.

This Christmas, I encourage you to turn to your neighbor and share a message of joy, urging them to fully embrace the spirit of happiness during this festive season. It is essential to recognize that for many individuals, succumbing to feelings of sadness or despair at this time of year is not only unproductive but also counterproductive. If one were to catch a glimpse of the divine plans that await them, it would become evident that clinging to negativity is a futile endeavor. Imagine if God were to reveal to us the blessings and opportunities that lie ahead in 2023; the anxiety, impatience, and harsh words exchanged among us would dissipate. The challenges we face, whether they stem from medical concerns, employment uncertainties, or personal struggles, should not rob us of our joy. It is crucial to understand that the joy of others does not stem from their circumstances but from their faith and trust in God.

As we reflect on this message, it is vital to grasp that God desires for us to embrace His joy and peace.

By doing so, we open ourselves to the transformative power of the Holy Spirit, which can bring about new beginnings in our lives. I urge you to acknowledge this truth and allow the spirit of the Most High to envelop you, leading to the conception of hope and renewal within your heart. In closing, I would like to share a verse that resonates deeply with me: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast.” Let us remind one another to remain unwavering and dedicated in our service to the Lord, for our efforts are never in vain. Embrace this message and carry it into the New Year with confidence and joy.

It is essential to recognize the significance of maintaining one’s joy, especially as we approach the New Year. Some individuals may feel that they lack the necessary effort or labor to contribute to this aspect of their lives. However, I urge you to focus on the vital task of safeguarding your joy. There may be instances where others choose to provoke you, yet you can decide to refrain from engaging in conflict, prioritizing the preservation of your happiness instead. For example, upon receiving an irritating email, you might opt to respond with kindness, wishing the sender a happy New Year, rather than allowing negativity to disrupt your peace. This conscious choice to protect your joy is paramount, and I encourage you to share a smile with your neighbor, reinforcing the importance of this commitment.

As we transition into the New Year, many of us will be involved in the process of redecorating or even relocating our homes, which serves as a reminder to also attend to the emotional and spiritual environment we cultivate within ourselves. It is crucial to take charge of the atmosphere surrounding your home and heart, ensuring that it reflects stability and joy. When others compliment you during this festive season, it is not only gratifying to hear that you look well, but it is equally important for them to recognize your steadfastness and the visible joy that emanates from your life. Strive to be an architect of your atmosphere, taking responsibility for the emotional landscape around you. Avoid allowing chaos or negativity to infiltrate your space, and instead, foster an environment that radiates joy and positivity.

As you navigate the holiday season, it is essential to maintain a sense of tranquility amidst the chaos that may surround you. This Christmas, strive to extend kindness to everyone, including those who may attempt to undermine your happiness. It is crucial to resolve within yourself that your joy is a priority, regardless of external circumstances. Many individuals find themselves praying for lighter burdens, particularly in relation to family dynamics and life’s challenges. However, I encourage you to shift your focus in prayer towards seeking greater strength and emotional resilience. There are certain aspects of life, such as familial relationships, that may not be subject to immediate change. It is vital to recognize that attempting to alter the behavior of a parent or in-law is often futile, and similarly, expecting significant changes in a spouse during this festive season may lead to disappointment.

In light of this, I urge you to approach the holidays with a renewed perspective. Avoid making hasty decisions driven by feelings of sadness or pressure. Instead, take the time to reflect thoughtfully on your choices. As the year draws to a close, consider how you wish to spend the remaining days and the transition into the New Year. Life is a singular journey, and it is important to cherish it, as it has been given to you with purpose. This Christmas, resist the temptation to engage in substance abuse as a means of celebration. True enjoyment lies not in excess but in safeguarding your joy and recognizing the blessings that surround you. Embrace responsibility and cultivate an appreciation for the goodness in your life and the lives of your loved ones.

During this holiday season, I consciously choose to focus on the positive aspects of my life rather than allowing myself to be overwhelmed by what is not functioning as I would like. I deliberately shift my attention away from those who may be distancing themselves from me and instead concentrate on the individuals who remain steadfast in my life. It is all too easy to become fixated on the negative, to dwell on the relationships that are fading, and to overlook the many supportive people who continue to care for us and wish us well. In this spirit, I express my gratitude for their presence and support, acknowledging that there is much to celebrate.

As we approach the New Year, I encourage a mindset of resilience and strength. Rather than seeking lighter burdens, let us pray for the fortitude to bear our challenges with grace. Emotional strength and the joy that comes from faith are vital; they empower us to navigate the trials that may arise. By safeguarding our joy, we can cultivate the strength necessary to face any adversities that may come our way. I am confident that the upcoming year will bring abundant joy and numerous blessings, and I look forward to sharing in the good news that awaits us, all in the precious name of Jesus.
