Press Into The Overflow

PRESS INTO THE OVERFLOW

It is essential to convey to those around us the importance of embracing the concept of abundance, as encapsulated in the phrase “press into the overflow.” This message should be reiterated, emphasizing that it is indeed time to engage with this overflow. In the context of spiritual growth and fulfillment, we can draw upon the teachings found in John chapter 10, specifically verse 10. This verse serves as a poignant reminder of the dichotomy between the intentions of the adversary and the purpose of Jesus Christ. The scripture states that the thief’s purpose is to steal, kill, and destroy, while Jesus declares His mission as one that brings life, and life in its fullest measure. To personalize this message, we can affirm that Jesus came so that I may experience life abundantly, and even more profoundly, that I may live in a state of overflow.

To personalize this message, we can affirm that Jesus came so that I may experience life in abundance, or even more specifically, in overflowing abundance. This affirmation serves as a powerful reminder of the divine promise of more-than-enough. It is crucial to internalize this truth, repeating it as a declaration of faith: “I am pressing into the overflow.” This declaration is not limited to a specific time frame but is a continuous journey of faith, particularly as we move forward into the future. Jesus presents us with a vision of a God who is generous and abundant, not one who withholds or limits resources. As we reflect on the adversities that seek to undermine our lives, we must also focus on the abundant life that Jesus offers, which stands in stark contrast to the destruction intended by the enemy.

The declaration made by Jesus regarding His purpose—”I have come that you may have life and have it in abundance”—was a profound affirmation of His intent to bring fulfillment and vitality to our existence. He was unreserved in addressing the adversarial forces at play, openly acknowledging the devil’s schemes without hesitation. In contrast, He articulated a clear vision for His role in our lives, emphasizing that the malevolent agenda of the devil is something we inherently understand through our own experiences. The Book of Job poignantly reflects this reality, stating, “Man that is born of a woman is of a short day and is full of evil,” which encapsulates the struggles and tribulations that characterize human life. This acknowledgment of suffering is not merely theoretical; it is rooted in the lived experiences of individuals throughout history.

The Scriptures also offer a glimpse of hope and redemption, particularly in the Book of Revelation, which speaks of a new heaven and a new Jerusalem where sorrow and pain will be eradicated. In this divine realm, there will be no more weeping, and our tears will be wiped away, signifying a unipolar existence devoid of the dualities that plague our earthly lives. Here, the presence of God is described as a source of unending joy, as articulated in the verse that states, “In Your presence is fullness of joy.” This contrasts sharply with our current reality, which is marked by a bipolar experience of joy and sorrow, health and sickness. While the devil seeks to disrupt our peace and inflict suffering, Jesus came to offer us a taste of that heavenly joy and tranquility, reminding us that true happiness is not found in the adversary’s schemes, which aim to steal, kill, and destroy, but rather in the abundant life He provides.

In certain instances, individuals may become overly fixated on the actions of others, leading to misguided perceptions. For example, a husband might label his wife as a witch, attributing her behavior to malevolent forces rather than recognizing that external influences may be at play. It is essential to understand that the devil can manipulate individuals, causing them to act in ways that are contrary to their true nature. This manipulation does not inherently define the person as evil; rather, it highlights the need for discernment in identifying the true source of conflict. Instead of directing anger towards a boss perceived as unjust, one should consider the possibility that the devil is using that individual as a pawn to disrupt one’s peace and joy.

Moreover, it is crucial to recognize that the devil operates with a strategic approach, employing various tactics to create obstacles in one’s life. These tactics may manifest through people, circumstances, or even situations that seem unrelated. The devil’s hierarchy is organized, and its agents are adept at sowing discord and confusion. When individuals focus their energy on confronting the wrong person or situation, they may inadvertently overlook the true adversary. Engaging in futile pursuits, such as seeking retribution against a perceived enemy, can lead to a loss of focus on spiritual warfare. Instead, one should prioritize prayer and seek to dismantle the influence of the devil, understanding that the real battle lies beyond the immediate frustrations and challenges presented by others.

It is essential to recognize that an individual should not be perceived as the sole source of one’s challenges. This morning, I emphasize the importance of understanding that no single person can embody all your problems. As we transition into 2019, it is crucial to shift our focus away from individuals and instead identify the true adversary. There are instances where someone may be temporarily influenced or manipulated by external forces, which can lead to a misinterpretation of their role in our lives. Jesus clearly articulated that the enemy’s purpose is to steal, kill, and destroy, while His mission is to provide light and abundance. My intention for the upcoming year is to concentrate on this abundance, to embrace the promises that God has laid out for me, and to confront any negative influences that may arise, armed with the authority I possess.

Furthermore, it is vital to understand that God’s desire is for us to experience a life filled with joy and fulfillment, rather than merely existing in a state of survival. He aims to bless us abundantly, not just in a limited manner. The presence of negative emotions, such as anger and anxiety, can attract detrimental forces, creating an environment where these feelings thrive. Recently, my wife engaged in a devotional session with our daughters, discussing the impact of anxiety within our family dynamics. She highlighted how allowing such emotions can lead to a cascade of negativity, including anger and fear, which often coexist harmoniously. It is imperative that we do not condone these emotions, as Jesus promised us life in abundance. Embracing this truth will empower us to reject negativity and fully accept the richness of life that God intends for us.

It is essential to confront and overcome limiting mindsets, directing our attention towards the concept of divine intervention, which is readily accessible to us.

Engaging with the notion of pressing into the overflow signifies a commitment to embracing the abundant life that Christ intended for us. This abundant life prompts us to reflect on its true essence and characteristics. According to Romans 14:17, the kingdom of God transcends mere physical sustenance, emphasizing that it is rooted in righteousness, peace, and joy within the Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul, in his discourse, highlights that the focus should not be on dietary choices that may lead others to stumble, but rather on the deeper spiritual principles that define the kingdom of God.

The essence of abundant life, as articulated by Jesus, is fundamentally linked to righteousness, which embodies the character of God’s kingdom. This righteousness is not merely about exhibiting good behavior; it is a profound transformation of nature that occurs at the moment of spiritual rebirth. When one accepts Christ, they receive this gift of righteousness, which reflects the very nature of God. To illustrate this distinction, one might compare it to the inherent differences between a cat and a dog; their unique natures manifest in their behaviors and appearances. Thus, understanding and embracing this divine nature is paramount as we seek to experience the fullness of life that God offers, allowing us to interact meaningfully with the overflow of His blessings.

The distinction between animals and human beings is profound, as it highlights the unique transformation that occurs when an individual embraces faith in Christ. According to 2 Corinthians 5:17, one becomes a new creation upon entering into a relationship with Christ, signifying a complete renewal of one’s essence. This transformation indicates that the former ways of living have been left behind, and a new existence has emerged. The term “new creature” implies a fundamental change in nature, where righteousness becomes the defining characteristic. This righteousness not only signifies moral integrity but also represents a divine nature that enables individuals to experience true freedom and newness of life, which are central tenets of God’s kingdom.

In Romans 6:4, the Apostle Paul elaborates on this concept by illustrating the significance of baptism as a symbolic act of dying to the old self and being resurrected into a new life, akin to Christ’s resurrection. This passage emphasizes that just as Christ was raised by the glory of God, believers are called to walk in this newness of life, which is intrinsically linked to righteousness. The text further explains that through this union with Christ, the old self is crucified, allowing for the eradication of sin’s dominion. Thus, the essence of righteousness is not merely about ethical conduct but embodies the very nature of God that believers now possess. It is essential to recognize that embracing this gift of righteousness is paramount within the framework of God’s kingdom, as it transforms one’s identity and purpose.

The discussion surrounding joy and peace remains a significant priority, particularly as we transition into 2019 and embrace the life that God offers. It is essential to grasp the concept of righteousness, which embodies freedom and signifies divine empowerment from God. In Romans 6:14, the Apostle Paul articulates a profound truth: “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under the law but under grace.” Being under grace implies liberation from all forms of bondage. For those who may find themselves ensnared by habits or substances, it is crucial to recognize that when an individual is in Christ and accepts the gift of righteousness, the chains of bondage are shattered. Righteousness equates to freedom; it is a transformative state that enables one to rise above limitations.

The analogy of fear can be illustrated through the common aversion to cockroaches, which, despite their small size, can provoke significant fear in many individuals. This fear often leads to irrational reactions, such as jumping onto furniture and screaming, even though the cockroach poses no real threat. The reality is that these creatures can easily be dealt with, either by using insect spray or simply sweeping them away, as they are intruders in our space. This scenario serves as a metaphor for the choices we make in life; it is not a lack of knowledge that causes fear, but rather an internal struggle that keeps individuals bound. Just as one can choose to confront a cockroach rather than flee, so too can one choose to embrace the freedom that comes with righteousness and grace, thereby rejecting any form of bondage.

For certain individuals, the perspective on substance abuse, particularly concerning hard drugs, must shift significantly. The assertion that one cannot be enslaved by substances like cocaine while being in Christ emphasizes the notion of personal choice. The Apostle Paul, in Romans chapter 6, verse 12, articulates the importance of not allowing sin to dominate one’s physical existence, urging believers to resist the temptations of their desires. He further instructs that individuals should not offer themselves as tools for unrighteousness but rather present themselves to God, embodying the essence of being alive from the dead. The scripture reassures that sin shall not exert control over those who are under grace, likening this state to a form of immunity where one is not subject to the law’s penalties. This immunity does not negate the existence of choice; rather, it empowers individuals to resist the allure of addiction, whether it be to substances, sexual immorality, or other vices.

In this context, the message of deliverance resonates profoundly, particularly as individuals seek liberation from various mental, emotional, and spiritual burdens. The transformative power of grace is highlighted, suggesting that those who enter a new year can emerge renewed and liberated from past struggles. The call to action is clear: one must decisively declare that they are no longer bound by their previous habits or addictions. The presence of divine glory is believed to facilitate this empowerment, encouraging individuals to assert their freedom and reject the chains of bondage. The essence of grace is that it provides the strength to overcome, allowing believers to confidently proclaim their independence from sin and embrace a life of righteousness.

The decision to place oneself in a state of bondage is ultimately a personal one; however, it is essential to recognize that both natural and supernatural principles govern this choice. I assert that I am not bound by any malevolent forces, nor am I enslaved by substances or detrimental habits. This autonomy is a matter of personal choice, and being in Christ empowers individuals to exercise that choice. It is crucial to understand that merely being in Christ does not automatically impose this freedom; one must actively choose to embrace it. Just as a diplomat may enter a foreign nation and opt not to utilize their diplomatic privileges, individuals can similarly choose to reject the constraints that may seek to limit them.

When a person is in Christ, they possess a form of spiritual immunity that protects them from the harassment of malevolent influences. This immunity is contingent upon what one allows or disallows in their life. The purpose of our gathering today is to actively disallow various negative influences that may be present. It is vital to engage with this message repeatedly and to seek additional resources to fully comprehend one’s status and the implications of the gift of righteousness. Many mistakenly believe that accepting Christ automatically eradicates sin; however, it requires diligent training of the spirit, mind, and body to align with this new identity. God is awaiting the moment when individuals will make the conscious choice to embrace their new status, particularly those who have been afflicted by illness or adversity, as they can also assert their authority through their spoken words.

This morning, direct your attention to the various aspects of your health; engage with that infection, confront that blood disorder, and assert your authority over them. The Centurion, a Roman soldier, approached Jesus with a profound understanding of authority, stating that a mere word from Him would suffice to heal his son. This remarkable faith, especially from a non-Jew, caught Jesus’ attention, as He acknowledged that such belief was rare in Israel. May this same faith be instilled in your heart today, empowering you to speak life and healing into your circumstances. In the name of the Lord Jesus, may you harness the power of your words to transform your life, dispelling pain, bitterness, and depression.

The essence of God’s kingdom is rooted in peace and joy, and it is crucial to actively cultivate joy within yourself and your environment. Reflecting on my own experiences, I recall a time shortly after my marriage when I would often awaken with a sense of anger clouding my mind. This negativity would spiral, leading me to dwell on past grievances and disappointments, ultimately affecting my interactions with those around me. It became clear that the enemy thrives on our lack of joy, seeking to disrupt our peace. Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I learned the importance of safeguarding my joy, recognizing that it is essential to resist the forces that aim to steal it away.

Upon waking each morning, I often find myself grappling with feelings of anger and frustration. In those moments, I resolutely declare to myself that today will not be a day for negativity or turmoil. The adversary has a way of infiltrating my thoughts, conjuring images of individuals who may provoke my ire—be it a spouse, a demanding boss, or a partner whose actions betray trust. It is imperative to confront these intrusive thoughts with a firm resolve, asserting that today is not the day for such disturbances. My journey toward this understanding has been a gradual one; in the early years of my marriage, I often found myself as the primary source of conflict. My wife and I would sometimes question the very foundation of our union, overwhelmed by the chaos I inadvertently created.

As I reflect on those tumultuous times, I recognize that allowing negative thoughts to fester only served to ignite further discord. I would emerge from my contemplations as a veritable tempest, ready to unleash turmoil throughout the day, while my wife, blessed with an innate ability to find rest amidst chaos, would peacefully sleep. This disparity often fueled my frustration, as I struggled to comprehend how she could remain undisturbed by the issues that consumed me. It is crucial for individuals to cultivate spiritual resilience, embracing their inherent nature as bearers of peace. I have come to understand that I embody the nature of Christ, and my purpose is to foster tranquility within my home, beginning with my own heart. The adversary seeks to undermine our joy and peace, but we must stand firm in our resolve, declaring that today is not a day for strife. The notion that one can wake up on the “wrong side of the bed” is a fallacy; rather, we must rise each day with intention, actively promoting the peace of God in our surroundings, whether at home or in the workplace. By doing so, we can prevent the encroachment of negativity and maintain a harmonious environment.

Experiencing a flat tire on the Third Mainland Bridge can evoke feelings of anger and frustration, leading one to perceive that the entire world is conspiring against them. Such moments can spiral into a sense of hopelessness, where despair takes root and suicidal thoughts may emerge. It is crucial to address this pervasive spirit of hopelessness by fostering an environment filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit and the peace of God. By cultivating these positive attributes within oneself, individuals can begin to radiate this joy to those around them. When others observe your unwavering happiness despite their own struggles, it opens the door for meaningful conversations about faith and resilience. You can share your conviction that your joy stems from your identity as the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, emphasizing that your happiness is not contingent upon external circumstances but rather on the transformative work of the Spirit in your life.

As we look forward to the year ahead, it is essential to embrace the belief that your relationships, whether marital or otherwise, will flourish under divine guidance.

For those who are single, the assurance is that your connections will remain steadfast, as the Holy Spirit will actively work through you to nurture these bonds. This year, you can expect that no divinely ordained business partner will depart from your life, as God will grant you the wisdom to uphold the joy of the Holy Spirit and the peace of God. It is vital to remain open to the blessings that God is sending your way, ensuring that you are in a state of peace to welcome them. Furthermore, it is important to recognize that certain attitudes can hinder one from experiencing divine intervention. As we reflect on the teachings from the New Year’s Eve service, we are reminded not to limit God’s capabilities in our lives, but rather to respond with faith and openness to the divine opportunities that await us.

We have patiently awaited divine intervention, and now we stand on the brink of significant transformations. While some among us may not have engaged in fasting, we are still experiencing the collective anointing that has emerged from our communal efforts. However, it is crucial not to become complacent in this shared blessing, as our relationship with God is fundamentally a personal journey. The past 21 days of fasting and daily prayer have cultivated a powerful corporate anointing, yet it is essential for each individual to seek their own unique overflow. This is a reminder to remain vigilant and not to take for granted the spiritual momentum we have generated together.

As we gather for communion today, it is vital to recognize the divine orchestrations unfolding in the spiritual realm. Many of us are poised to ascend to new heights in our spiritual walk with God. I firmly believe that during this sacred time, chains will be broken, burdens lifted, and yokes destroyed in the name of Jesus. However, this requires an earnest effort and the right mindset. In 2 Kings 13, we see the account of Elisha, who was gravely ill, and King Joash’s visit to him. Joash, despite his apparent reverence, displayed a lack of understanding of how to truly engage with God’s presence. Elisha instructed him to take a bow and arrows, symbolizing the need for active participation in the divine process. As Joash followed Elisha’s guidance, he was reminded that the arrows represented the Lord’s deliverance, emphasizing the importance of both faith and action in our spiritual endeavors.

You are to engage the Syrians at Aphek until they are completely vanquished. In the context of the time when this scripture was penned, Israel was embroiled in tangible warfare; however, in contemporary times, our struggles are predominantly spiritual in nature. We contend with battles of the mind, addressing unseen forces that influence our thoughts and actions. The instruments of our conflict are not physical weapons; we do not rely on arrows or firearms. Instead, when we communicate in the spiritual realm, we unleash powerful forces. By voicing our prayers and declarations, we actively dismantle negative thoughts and affirm the triumph of the cross. The crucifixion of Jesus marked the conclusion of such battles, shifting our focus to the mental and spiritual domains. This is why scripture emphasizes that our weapons are not of human origin but are spiritually potent, capable of demolishing harmful imaginations and reinforcing our victory in Christ.

Elisha proclaimed that this was the arrow of deliverance, and as we gather in prayer this morning, God is poised to place the arrow of deliverance in the hands and mouths of many. As you speak, you are addressing long-standing challenges. It is crucial to recognize that Syria had historically oppressed Israel in cycles, and the divine intention for this season, which I believe extends to you in 2019, is to confront and resolve these persistent issues once and for all. When the individual approached Elisha, God indicated His intention to deal with Syria decisively. However, the king’s lack of fervor was evident when he struck the ground only three times, prompting Elisha’s anger. The scripture reveals that the man of God was exceedingly displeased, stating that had the king struck five or six times, he would have completely obliterated Syria.

It is essential to recognize that certain matters must reach their conclusion this year, as indicated by the term ‘destroy.’ Over the past five years, we have confronted various challenges, including medical and emotional conditions, as well as persistent issues that have hindered our progress. The principle remains clear: one must take decisive action repeatedly. The king failed to fully utilize the opportunities for deliverance presented to him, and we must not allow indifference to obstruct our access to divine power. It is crucial to understand that fasting is not merely a practice for the devout; as Jesus stated, some challenges can only be overcome through prayer and fasting.

As we embark on this new year, it is important to note that our church observes a fast every Wednesday, a practice that is open to all members. Our workers participate in this weekly fast, and we distribute prayer points to guide our collective efforts. Even if one were to miss a few Wednesdays, committing to this practice could result in fasting for 20 to 30 days throughout the year. Personally, I strive to maintain this discipline, even when traveling, as I recognize the significance of dedicating time to spiritual matters over mere physical sustenance. We were not created solely to consume food; rather, we are here to fulfill our destinies and purposes. If food becomes an obstacle to achieving your goals, it is imperative to address this issue now. It is vital to avoid a lukewarm approach to faith, as this can lead to prolonged struggles. Elisha’s frustration with the king’s indifference serves as a reminder that we must seize the moment and take decisive action.

Elisha emphasized the necessity of decisively eliminating persistent issues, urging that they be resolved once and for all. He articulated a profound truth about the importance of moving beyond certain challenges, particularly within the context of marriage, where he asserted that some matters should never resurface after being addressed. Standing before his audience, he affirmed his commitment to this principle, indicating that it is essential to confront and eradicate problems decisively to allow for progress in other areas of life. He drew a parallel to the historical context of Israel, noting that while Syria was merely one of many adversaries, the divine plan at that moment called for its complete destruction. This serves as a metaphor for the personal battles individuals face, suggesting that there are significant obstacles in one’s life that must be confronted and eliminated in order to move forward.

Furthermore, he encouraged a deep yearning for the supernatural and the fulfillment of God’s will, cautioning against complacency in spiritual matters. He referenced the biblical figure Esau, who, in his pursuit of immediate gratification, neglected his destiny, illustrating the dangers of prioritizing material needs over spiritual growth. Elisha urged individuals to engage in practices such as fasting, even if they have never done so before, to cultivate a stronger spiritual foundation. He recounted the moment when Jesus’ disciples were questioned about their lack of fasting, highlighting that true spiritual discipline often emerges in times of need. This narrative serves as a reminder that one’s spiritual journey should not be hindered by worldly distractions, and that a commitment to spiritual development is crucial for overcoming life’s challenges.

It is essential to engage deeply with the supernatural through the practices of prayer, praise, and prophetic actions. In the upcoming month of February, we will initiate a campaign focused on acts of kindness, which will serve as a prophetic call for many among us. God may guide you to perform specific acts, such as purchasing groceries for a family in need. To facilitate this, we will provide cards from the church that you can present whenever you perform a generous act. These cards will convey the message of God’s love and include a contact number for those who may require further assistance. This initiative is designed to inspire a range of prophetic actions, encouraging individuals to respond to divine prompts in ways that reflect their faith and commitment.

Throughout this year, it is anticipated that God will inspire some to give sacrificially in ways they have never experienced before, fostering a personal connection between the giver and the divine. You may receive specific instructions, such as sowing seeds of generosity or blessing others in various capacities. For instance, you might feel compelled to approach a stranger to inquire about their children’s school fees, and if they have not been paid, you could offer to cover the costs for all of them. This level of obedience and generosity mirrors the actions of Abraham, who welcomed strangers into his home, ultimately discovering that they were angels bearing good news. May you experience divine encounters and revelations throughout this year, enriching your spiritual journey and deepening your connection with God.
