THE GENIUS OF A RENEWED MIND

It is abundantly clear that a significant transformation is occurring in our world today, and it is essential for individuals to participate in this change alongside God. To do so, one must approach Him with both an open heart and an open mind, ready to embrace new perspectives. This willingness to adapt is crucial, as many individuals remain entrenched in their established beliefs, unaware that a rigid mindset can result in a stagnant existence. When one is fixed in their ways, they risk experiencing a life devoid of growth and progress. In contrast, walking with God allows for movement and evolution, fostering a dynamic relationship that encourages personal development.

The biblical account of the Israelites in the wilderness serves as a poignant illustration of this principle. God manifested His presence as a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, guiding the people in their journey. Their movement was contingent upon the movement of the pillar, akin to waiting for a traffic light to turn green before proceeding. This metaphor underscores the importance of being attuned to divine guidance and recognizing the need for transformation in one’s mindset. As articulated in James Allen’s influential work, “As a Man Thinks,” the essence of a person’s life is intricately linked to their thoughts. For meaningful change to occur, one must undergo a profound mental shift, embracing the audacity to envision not just the current reality but the potential for a better future.

When the Spirit of God begins to fill a person’s heart, one of the primary objectives of the Holy Spirit is to assist individuals in perceiving themselves not merely as they currently are, but rather as they have the potential to become. This transformative vision is essential, as it encourages us to cultivate the audacity to envision a more favorable future. It is imperative to ask oneself whether one possesses the courage to adopt a new perspective, to permit God to instill fresh thoughts, innovative ideas, and imaginative concepts within one’s heart. In this context, Romans 12:2 serves as a pivotal scripture, emphasizing the importance of not conforming to the behaviors and customs of the world. Instead, it calls for a divine transformation that begins with a fundamental shift in our thinking.

The process of becoming a new person, as outlined in the scripture, hinges on the renewal of the mind. This renewal is crucial for discerning God’s will, which is described as good, pleasing, and perfect. Many individuals grapple with the question of how to ascertain God’s will for their lives, and the answer lies in the commitment to mind renewal, particularly in how one perceives oneself. A fixed mindset can hinder one’s ability to fully embrace God’s intentions, akin to concrete that has set into a rigid form. In civil engineering, once concrete is poured into a mold and allowed to harden, it retains that shape indefinitely. Similarly, if one’s mindset becomes rigid and unyielding, it can prevent the realization of God’s greater plans. Thus, engaging in the process of renewing one’s thoughts is essential for unlocking the potential that God has for each individual.

The human mind can be likened to a mold that takes on the shape of whatever is introduced into it. Once these ideas or beliefs are established, they become entrenched, resembling a stronghold or fortress that is formidable and resistant to change. This analogy can be illustrated by observing the demolition of a building; the robust pillars, columns, and beams, once solidified in concrete, require powerful tools such as a jackhammer to dismantle. In the context of audacious living and faith in the word of God, this divine influence acts as a jackhammer, breaking down the rigid structures of thought and belief that have formed over time, often rooted in childhood experiences or cultural backgrounds. When God seeks to transform an individual’s life, He initiates a process that encourages a new self-perception and a shift in thinking.

The scripture emphasizes the importance of not conforming to the behaviors and customs prevalent in society, but rather allowing God to renew one’s mind and transform them into a new being. This raises a critical question regarding the limitations imposed by our own thought processes: how has your mindset hindered the movement of God in your life during this season? Whether it pertains to health, finances, or professional endeavors, the reality remains that if the mind cannot envision or accept certain possibilities, those outcomes will remain unattainable. The principle that what enters the mind ultimately manifests in one’s life is underscored by the adage in information technology: “garbage in, garbage out.” This is further supported by scripture, which states that a good person draws from the good stored in their heart, while an evil person brings forth evil from their own negative reserves.

In verse 35, it is articulated that the nature of an individual’s heart is the source from which their actions and words emerge. This concept emphasizes that what resides within one’s heart ultimately manifests in their life experiences. During challenging times, such as those faced in recent years, the analogy of a sponge becomes particularly relevant; when pressure is applied, the true contents are revealed. For instance, if a piece of fabric is immersed in water and subsequently squeezed, it is the water that will be expelled, not an unrelated substance. The trials and tribulations of 2020, including the COVID-19 pandemic, job losses, personal conflicts, and global unrest, have created significant external pressures. These pressures serve to reveal the internal state of individuals, prompting reflection on what emotions and thoughts have surfaced during these trying moments.

As one navigates through these pressures, it is crucial to examine the nature of the responses that arise.

Are feelings of anger, resentment, bitterness, regret, shame, or fear dominating your reactions? Such responses are indicative of the mental and emotional state that has been cultivated within. It is essential to recognize that God desires to facilitate transformation through the renewal of the mind, but this requires personal accountability. Individuals must take proactive steps in their journey of transformation, embracing the notion that their mind is a powerful instrument that should be intentionally nurtured and empowered. While many seek divine intervention for healing or financial prosperity, it is equally important to acknowledge the role of personal responsibility in fostering a mindset conducive to growth and positive change.

One critical aspect that is often overlooked is the internal state of an individual, particularly when it comes to personal wealth and relationships. When a person harbors feelings of poverty, insecurity, or emotional turmoil, these internal struggles can significantly impact their ability to form healthy relationships or partnerships. If an individual is plagued by distrust and perceives threats in their environment, any financial success they achieve may merely transform them into a wealthy individual burdened by fear. This transformation does not equate to true prosperity; rather, it highlights the importance of addressing internal issues such as fear and anger. For instance, if someone seeks divine assistance for a marital breakthrough but neglects to confront their inner turmoil, they may find themselves in a relationship characterized by unresolved anger or conflict, rather than harmony.

Moreover, the journey toward meaningful change and prosperity often necessitates a commitment to internal transformation. It requires a courageous decision to invite God into the depths of one’s heart to facilitate this change. The biblical passage from Ephesians 2:10 emphasizes that individuals are crafted as masterpieces, designed for good works that were preordained. However, many who claim to have been renewed in Christ struggle to fulfill their divine purpose because they resist the necessary internal transformation. They fail to allow God to reshape their thoughts and attitudes, which ultimately hinders their ability to engage in the good works intended for them. Embracing this internal change is essential for realizing one’s full potential and achieving the life that God has envisioned.

It is entirely possible to experience a rebirth while still holding onto the belief that the afflictions plaguing your family are hereditary and inescapable. This notion suggests that such ailments are an inherent part of your lineage, and thus, you feel compelled to accept them as your reality. However, the scripture asserts that anyone who is in Christ becomes a new creation; the old has passed away, and all things have been made new. Furthermore, Ephesians 2:10 emphasizes that we are crafted as masterpieces, renewed for the purpose of fulfilling the good works that God has preordained for us. These divine plans extend into the years ahead, and the only prerequisite for accessing them is a transformative shift in mindset. A change in your thought patterns is essential, as the scripture reminds us that as a person thinks in their heart, so they are.

In the context of relationships, particularly marriage, the outcome—whether it flourishes or falters—largely hinges on how you perceive and internalize your experiences. The thoughts you nurture during this season significantly influence your emotional landscape. Many individuals desire to eliminate negative aspects from their lives, yet they inadvertently allow detrimental thoughts and ideas to infiltrate their hearts. Instead of surrounding themselves with individuals who can facilitate a positive mental renewal, they often gravitate towards those who perpetuate negativity. If you find yourself in this situation, I encourage you to engage in self-reflection this evening. As we come together in prayer and partake in communion, trust that a breakthrough can occur in the configuration of your mind. It is crucial to understand that a renewed mind leads to a reconfigured heart; the mind serves as the gateway, while the heart embodies the essence of the individual. True internal transformation begins with the discernment of what you allow to enter your consciousness.

The day begins with a reflection on the predominant thoughts that occupy one’s mind upon waking. It is essential to consider whether these thoughts are rooted in feelings of failure, fear, or a belief that one is unable to progress beyond a certain point. Many individuals have experienced the frustration of attempting to guide someone towards a brighter future, only to find that the other person is unable to envision it for themselves. This mental blockade represents one of the most significant forms of spiritual attack, as it is not the external threats that pose the greatest danger, but rather the limitations we impose on ourselves within our minds. To achieve the meaningful progress that is divinely intended for us, it is crucial to cultivate an open mindset, allowing for the possibility of growth and change.

When a person’s mindset becomes rigid, their life trajectory becomes equally constrained. This fixation can reach a level where even divine intervention seems ineffective, as the individual becomes so entrenched in their beliefs that they resist transformation. While it is true that God promises never to abandon us, it is equally important to recognize the scriptural admonitions against grieving the Holy Spirit and the dangers of pride. Pride can manifest in the refusal to acknowledge the need for change, as exemplified by King Saul in the biblical narrative. His inability to adapt and his overwhelming insecurity ultimately led to his rejection as king, illustrating the peril of a closed mind. Saul’s fear and distrust prevented him from heeding wise counsel, demonstrating how a lack of vulnerability can hinder both personal and spiritual growth.

It is possible that someone may be listening to your thoughts at this very moment, prompting a realization that you have recently been grappling with the challenge of expressing your innermost feelings to others. This struggle with vulnerability can be a significant barrier to authentic communication. The Bible advises us to confess our faults to one another for the sake of healing, highlighting the importance of openness in fostering genuine connections. When you find yourself unable to trust anyone with your heart, you inadvertently shut the door on your own thoughts, convincing yourself that your ideas are the only valid ones. This mindset can lead to a resistance to change or renewal, effectively trapping you in a cycle of self-reinvention that stifles growth.

The story of Saul serves as a cautionary tale in this context. He was given a clear directive to confront the Amalekites without sparing anything, yet he chose to retain certain possessions. When confronted by Samuel, Saul’s inability to adhere to the instruction revealed a deeper issue: a mind entrenched in its own ways. This fixation can manifest in various aspects of life, such as relationships or workplace dynamics, where one may be the loudest voice yet remain oblivious to simple truths. Despite professing to be a Christian, a lack of transformation in one’s life can indicate a disconnect between belief and action. While it is commendable to celebrate miracles and breakthroughs, it is crucial to recognize that promotions or successes do not equate to personal security or growth. An insecure leader, unable to trust others, can create a toxic environment, as they process instructions through a lens clouded by their own unresolved issues.

Experiencing healing from an illness is indeed a remarkable event, and I fervently pray that many individuals will receive such healing tonight. However, it is essential to recognize that divine miracles extend beyond physical ailments; they encompass the realm of the mind as well. When one is healed from conditions like cancer or migraines, it is not merely the absence of pain that God desires for them. He also wishes for individuals to attain clarity of thought, enabling them to navigate their relationships more effectively, manage their finances with wisdom, and heed His guidance with a receptive spirit. The biblical account of Saul serves as a cautionary tale; he reached a point where he could no longer accept divine instruction, leading to his rejection by God. In 1 Samuel 15, God expressed regret to Samuel for appointing Saul as king, highlighting the importance of remaining aligned with divine purpose. May we all strive to live in such a way that God never regrets the blessings He bestows upon us, whether they pertain to our marriages, careers, or spiritual callings.

As we reflect on these truths, it is crucial to understand that this season calls for a deliberate trust in God to transform any negative or self-limiting thoughts that may hinder our progress and His work in our lives. The mental barriers that once constrained Saul were so formidable that by the time we reach 1 Samuel 17, he was unable to confront the challenge posed by Goliath. In contrast, David, who was sent on an errand by his father, approached the situation with an open mind and a readiness to seize the opportunity presented to him. If God places a significant challenge before you, akin to Goliath, will you recognize it as your next assignment? The state of one’s mind can profoundly influence their ability to perceive opportunities; thus, it is vital to cultivate a mindset that is receptive to divine inspiration and guidance.

In the challenging context of a pandemic and ongoing conflicts, one can still identify a formidable opportunity that can lead to personal advancement. David, positioned at the front lines alongside his brothers, faced skepticism from Eliab, who questioned his motives for inquiring about Goliath and the war instead of simply delivering provisions. David, however, perceived a deeper significance in the situation, recognizing that his perspective was shaped by a heightened awareness of his surroundings. This awareness ignited a sense of purpose within him, suggesting that there are environments designed by God that can awaken latent potential within individuals. It is essential for one’s mindset to align with divine inspiration, allowing the Spirit of God to empower them toward achieving victory.

David’s unwavering faith in God was evident; he had immersed himself in the teachings of the Lord, fostering a belief that God could accomplish the seemingly impossible, including the defeat of Goliath. Beyond merely vanquishing the giant, David understood that God could also instill love and compassion in the hearts of men. After David triumphed over Goliath, King Saul’s insecurities resurfaced, revealing his lack of trust in God’s providence. Saul had not renewed his mind to recognize that the same God who had elevated him to kingship could also sustain him in that position. The public’s acclaim for David, as they sang of his greater victories, posed a significant challenge to Saul’s leadership, highlighting the need for a strong sense of self-worth in a leader when faced with the success of a once-unknown individual who had risen to address a national crisis.

When a CEO is present and another individual is tasked with developing a solution, it requires a significant level of self-esteem to acknowledge that divine guidance can manifest through anyone, not solely through oneself. This situation mirrors the biblical narrative of Saul and David, where Saul’s insecurities transformed him into an adversary of David, leading him to pursue David with the intent to kill. This scenario raises a pertinent question, particularly in the context of Nigeria and broader African communities, where the concept of enemies has become a prevalent concern within the church. Many individuals are preoccupied with the notion of vanquishing their enemies, often seeking divine intervention to eliminate perceived threats. Despite being aware of Saul’s hostility, David demonstrated remarkable restraint when he had the opportunity to kill Saul in 1 Samuel 24. Instead of succumbing to vengeance, he chose to cut a piece of Saul’s robe, an act that deeply troubled him, prompting him to acknowledge Saul’s position as king and refrain from taking matters into his own hands, recognizing that such actions would contradict God’s will.

This narrative illustrates the profound transformation of David’s heart and mind, which was shaped by a deep understanding of God’s principles. The same David who composed Psalm 23, expressing trust in the Lord as his shepherd, exemplifies a renewed spirit that remains steadfast even in the face of adversity. His declaration of fearlessness in the valley of the shadow of death reflects a profound revelation and knowledge of God that fortified his heart against external threats. This depth of understanding is echoed in Ephesians 1:18, which speaks of the enlightenment of one’s understanding. David’s unwavering faith and insight into God’s nature allowed him to navigate the complexities of his circumstances without succumbing to fear or hatred, demonstrating the power of a heart reconfigured by divine wisdom.

Paul expresses a profound prayer for us, emphasizing the importance of having our understanding illuminated so that we may truly comprehend the hope associated with His calling and the immeasurable riches of His glory bestowed upon the saints. This prayer is rich in meaning, highlighting a level of knowledge about God that transcends mere intellectual understanding; it speaks to a deep, heartfelt awareness. Paul encourages us to seek a relationship with God that is not just academic but deeply personal and transformative. This kind of knowledge mirrors the intimate understanding that David had of God, which was evident in his renewed mind and reconfigured heart.

The depth of knowing God, as articulated in the Greek term “Ginosko,” signifies an experiential and intimate relationship, akin to the difference between how one might know a casual acquaintance versus a spouse. This profound understanding is what enabled David to write Psalm 23, reflecting a trust in God that allowed him to refrain from harming his adversary, Saul, despite having the opportunity. Saul’s recognition of David’s righteousness reveals the internal turmoil he faced, highlighting the dangers of insecurity and misplaced ambition. In our own lives, we may find ourselves pursuing superficial goals or engaging in unproductive conflicts rather than focusing on the meaningful work that can lead to genuine advancement. It is crucial to confront the underlying issues within ourselves—such as shame, fear, and the inability to forgive—so that we can embrace the transformative power of God and renew our minds, ultimately leading to a reconfiguration of our hearts.

There are specific insights within the Scriptures that may remain elusive until one’s heart undergoes a transformation rooted in the renewal of the mind. This renewal is essential for discerning the divine intentions that God has for you in this season, and it is through this process that one can truly glorify Jesus. The narrative of Saul and David illustrates this principle vividly; God chose to reject Saul, declaring that David’s lineage would perpetually hold the throne. This promise signifies that even in the face of human shortcomings, God’s grace prevails, ensuring that a descendant of David will always reign in Israel. The crux of this divine selection lies in the condition of the heart, which starkly contrasts the fixed mindset that led to Saul’s rejection.

As we navigate through this season, it is crucial to recognize the importance of remaining open to God’s guidance rather than succumbing to stagnation or divine disfavor. One must earnestly seek the Lord’s assistance in embracing new perspectives and discarding the burdens that hinder spiritual growth. It requires courage to realign one’s priorities, allowing the heart to welcome fresh insights. The scripture in 2 Timothy 3:5 warns against those who exhibit a semblance of godliness while denying its transformative power, urging believers to distance themselves from such individuals. This highlights that true spirituality transcends mere outward expressions, such as fervent prayers or church attendance; it demands an inner capacity to reject negative thoughts and embrace maturity, as Paul articulated in his reflections on growth and understanding.

They often overlook the transformative power that exists within us—the ability to alter our thoughts and perceptions, to dismantle negative self-imagery, and to envision ourselves in a more positive light. As a congregation, I firmly believe that the future we are stepping into is far more promising than our past experiences. To fully embrace this potential, it is imperative that we undergo a significant shift in our mindset. The messages I receive from God resonate not only with me but also with the Elevation Church, affirming that what lies ahead for each of us is indeed greater than what we have previously encountered. Engaging in a process of mental renewal is essential; it allows us to perceive ourselves and our circumstances differently. As we gather in prayer and partake in communion this evening, it is crucial to recognize that God desires to dismantle outdated patterns and cycles that have long held us captive.

For many individuals, life may seem predictable, as if they are trapped in a repetitive cycle that they cannot escape.

This notion is echoed in the scripture from 2 Corinthians Chapter 10, particularly verses 3 to 5, which remind us that although we exist in the physical realm, our battles are not fought with earthly means. The scripture emphasizes that our spiritual weapons are powerful, capable of demolishing strongholds. Verse 5 specifically addresses the need to cast down arguments—those negative thoughts that suggest we are incapable of moving forward, that we are destined to endure hardship, or that our relationships are devoid of hope. These arguments can manifest as doubts about our marriages or our self-worth, leading us to overlook the positive aspects of ourselves and those around us. As we prepare to pray, let us focus on breaking free from these limiting beliefs and embracing the new possibilities that God has in store for us.

In previous counseling sessions, I have encountered individuals who express skepticism about the possibility of finding a partner who would marry someone like me or provide the financial backing I seek for investments. This disbelief often stems from a lack of self-confidence, leading to the notion that no one would trust me enough to invest significant amounts of money. Such internal conflicts are common, as they reflect the struggle against negative thoughts and beliefs that challenge our understanding of divine potential. It is essential to recognize that familiarity with certain scriptures does not equate to fully grasping their profound implications. Sometimes, it is necessary to delve deeper into these familiar verses to discern which limiting thoughts we must discard in this season of our lives. The Bible teaches us that our battles are not fought with physical weapons but through the transformation of our thoughts and the practice of love towards others. This principle is exemplified in the life of David, who consistently demonstrated love even in the face of adversity from Saul. Ultimately, God intervened on David’s behalf, allowing him to rise to his rightful place on the throne. This current season is one of elevation, where you are invited to step into the destinies that God has prepared for you since the beginning of time. Therefore, I encourage you to raise your hands in acknowledgment of this divine promise.
