THE GOD FACTOR

The initial message in this teaching series is entitled “The God Factor.” As we embark on this journey of personal and spiritual development, it is imperative to recognize the significance of the God factor in our lives. For believers who are committed to progressing in their spiritual walk, the journey begins and culminates with God. Everything revolves around Him, and as we delve into this series, it is essential to grasp the concept of the God factor within the framework of progress. Neglecting this vital aspect can lead individuals astray, causing them to pursue paths that deviate from their intended purpose. In today’s society, many find themselves in a state of deprivation, often resorting to using God for their own ends rather than allowing Him to work through them.

In contemporary Christianity, there exists a tendency to emphasize the notion of individuals utilizing God rather than the divine actively engaging with them. However, it is crucial to understand that God desires to work through us, and in doing so, we can experience profound benefits. One of these benefits is the assurance of having God on our side. Just as a pipe carrying water cannot remain dry, we too must allow God to flow through us. Instead of merely seeking blessings, we should focus on being vessels for His grace, as true goodness and mercy will naturally follow those who allow God to lead. The scripture assures us that goodness and mercy will pursue and overtake us. Therefore, I declare that nothing will hinder your progress; you are advancing with remarkable momentum, and your light is shining ever brighter in the name of Jesus.

The foundational scripture for our new teaching series is derived from 2 Chronicles 26, specifically verses 1 to 15. Due to time constraints, I will not read the entire passage but will highlight key elements. The narrative centers around Uzziah, a young leader who ascended to the throne at the age of sixteen. To gain a deeper understanding, one can refer to 2 Chronicles 25, which recounts the story of Uzziah’s father, Amaziah. Although Amaziah initially served God faithfully, he faltered during a military campaign by bringing back idols from a victorious battle and subsequently worshipping them, leading to God’s departure from him. Following Amaziah’s death, Uzziah took over the kingship, illustrating a vital lesson from this account: God is not limited by age when it comes to choosing individuals for His purposes.

Uzziah’s reign began when he was just sixteen, and he ruled for fifty-two years in Jerusalem, with his mother being Jecholiah. The scripture notes that he acted in accordance with the Lord’s will, following the example set by his father. Importantly, Uzziah sought God during the prophetic ministry of Zachariah, who guided him in revering the Lord. The New Living Translation emphasizes that Uzziah’s success was directly linked to his pursuit of divine guidance. As long as he remained committed to seeking the Lord, he experienced prosperity and triumph in his endeavors. This narrative serves as an encouragement for us all, as we aspire for success in our own lives through a steadfast commitment to seeking God’s guidance.

Despite the challenges you may face, this season will bring you remarkable success through the grace of the Lord Jesus. As illustrated in verse 6, Uzziah took decisive action against the Philistines, demonstrating the wisdom bestowed upon him by God. He strategically selected his battles, focusing on the most significant conflicts while establishing essential infrastructure and systems. Remarkably, he accomplished these feats at the young age of sixteen. This serves as a powerful reminder that age should not be a barrier to achievement; whether you identify as a Baby Boomer, Gen Z, Gen X, or Millennial, God is not constrained by age. The key takeaway from Uzziah’s story is that God seeks individuals willing to be used, especially in times of crisis when many may feel lost or ineffective.

The scripture further emphasizes Uzziah’s military prowess as he engaged the Philistines, dismantling their strongholds in Gath, Jabneh, and Ashdod, and subsequently constructing cities in the region. The Philistines had long been adversaries of Israel and Judah, yet Uzziah’s determination led to significant victories. Verse 7 highlights that God aided him against not only the Philistines but also the Arabians and the Meunites, resulting in tributes from the Ammonites and a reputation that extended to the borders of Egypt. His strength and success serve as an inspiration, and I pray that you, too, will find strength and resilience as you navigate the remainder of 2023, empowered by the Lord’s guidance.

Weakness shall not overpower you in the name of the Lord Jesus. The scripture in verse 9 highlights the accomplishments of Uzziah, who undertook the significant task of constructing towers. It is noteworthy that he built various types of towers, demonstrating a remarkable vision and capability for infrastructure development. Uzziah fortified these structures in strategic locations such as the corner gate, the valley gate, and the corner buttress of the wall in Jerusalem. Additionally, he ventured into the desert to erect towers, a feat that seems incongruous yet speaks to his ambition and foresight. This endeavor can be likened to modern architectural marvels found in places like Dubai and Qatar, illustrating that such visionary projects are not merely contemporary phenomena but have historical precedents. Remarkably, Uzziah embarked on these initiatives at the young age of sixteen, serving as an inspiration that age should not be a barrier to achievement.

Furthermore, the narrative progresses to reveal the military prowess of Uzziah, as indicated in verse 11. He commanded a formidable army composed of skilled fighting men organized into companies, meticulously prepared by his officers Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah. The total number of chief officers among his valiant warriors reached 2,600, leading an impressive force of 307,500 soldiers, all dedicated to supporting the king in battle. Uzziah’s strategic foresight extended to equipping his army with an array of defensive gear, including shields, spears, helmets, and body armor, as well as offensive weaponry such as bows and slings. Notably, he also innovated by creating advanced devices in Jerusalem, designed by skilled artisans, to enhance the capabilities of his towers for launching arrows and large stones. His reputation grew significantly as he was marvelously aided in his endeavors, ultimately leading to his strength and renown.

May the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ remain steadfast in your life. It is essential to recognize that without the grace of God, any efforts made in construction—be it physical or metaphorical—will ultimately be futile. The divine assistance of God is perpetually accessible, provided we acknowledge His presence in all our endeavors. As stated in Hebrews 3:4, while every house is indeed built by someone, it is God who is the ultimate architect of all creation. He desires to collaborate with us in the building process, urging us to walk alongside Him in our journey.

God is not merely an observer in our lives; He is both the originator and the consummator of our existence, serving as our source and sustainer. It is crucial for believers to recognize Him as such, accepting His role as the author and finisher of their lives. Jesus instructed us to pray for the manifestation of heavenly patterns on earth, indicating that there is a divine blueprint for each of our lives. By aligning ourselves with this divine pattern, we can experience extraordinary support, similar to that which Uzziah received through his relationship with God. Embracing the God factor in our daily lives will enable us to address fundamental questions regarding our motivations and the principles guiding our decisions, ultimately leading us to the right answers that stem from a deep connection with God.

The scripture in 1 Corinthians 10:31 emphasizes the importance of dedicating all our actions to the glory of God, highlighting the significance of the divine aspect in our endeavors. Engaging with this God factor involves two critical considerations, which I will outline succinctly. The first consideration is the notion of building for God. It is essential for each individual to reflect on this concept and affirm it by stating, “I am building for God.” This affirmation prompts us to engage in self-inquiry regarding our pursuits. Whether we are constructing a career, nurturing a marital relationship, or developing financial stability, it is vital to assess whether these efforts align with God’s intentions. For instance, if a young person aspires to establish a family, their focus should be on creating a home that honors God, which inherently influences their choices and actions.

When one commits to building a home for God, it necessitates adherence to His principles and guidance.

The analogy of consulting an architect serves to illustrate this point effectively. If an individual specifies their desire for a particular type of house, yet the architect presents a design that does not align with those specifications, it raises questions about the integrity of the project. Similarly, if one claims to be constructing a life or a family for God but proceeds in a manner inconsistent with His teachings, the foundation of that endeavor is compromised. It is crucial to recognize that genuine construction for God requires a commitment to His vision and directives. Therefore, as we navigate our various pursuits, we must continually ask ourselves if our actions reflect a true dedication to building in accordance with God’s will.

The manner in which you establish your family should serve as a testament to your commitment to building for God. While you may currently be focused on developing a business, it is crucial to recognize that the motivations behind your efforts should not solely revolve around financial gain, as is often the case in worldly pursuits. If your endeavors are primarily self-serving, they lack the divine foundation necessary for sustainability, as they are not constructed in alignment with God’s will. It is essential to affirm this intention by declaring, “I am building for God.” This declaration encompasses not only your personal life but also your marital aspirations and entrepreneurial ventures, all of which should be dedicated to a higher purpose.

Reflecting on my own journey, I recall an experience from approximately thirty years ago when I was an engineering student. During that time, I felt a profound calling to initiate a fellowship among my peers, which eventually evolved into a lasting ministry. This pivotal moment in my life serves as a reminder of the importance of building with God at the center of our endeavors. I vividly remember a particular instance when our fellowship, consisting of around fifty members, arrived at our usual meeting place only to find that there was no electricity and no indication that it would be restored. This challenge underscored the necessity of relying on divine guidance and support in all our undertakings, reinforcing the idea that true success is achieved when we align our efforts with God’s purpose.

As the pastor of the fellowship, I found myself standing in anticipation of the gathering when a profound realization struck me: we would not be able to conduct the fellowship in a manner that truly honored God. Being children of light, it was imperative that we did not dwell in darkness. Without consulting anyone, I instinctively began to run towards the nearest student residence hall, driven by the thought of retrieving a rechargeable lamp that I believed someone possessed. The urgency of the situation consumed me, and I did not pause to inform anyone of my intentions. My focus was singular; I needed to act swiftly to ensure that our fellowship could proceed in a way that would glorify God.

Upon reaching the residence hall, I hurried into a friend’s room and urgently requested the lamp, to which he graciously agreed. I hoisted the large lamp onto my shoulder and sprinted back to the fellowship location, my heart racing and breath labored from the exertion. Once I arrived and set the lamp down for use, I took a moment to catch my breath, reflecting on the day’s events. I pondered the motivations behind my actions, questioning why I had acted so fervently without any expectation of reward or recognition. My commitment was solely to serve God and to positively impact the lives of my fellow students. I understood that true service to God is driven by passion and a pure motive, and I recognized that the Holy Spirit continually refines our intentions, ensuring that our efforts are aligned with divine purpose. Ultimately, the fellowship was illuminated, and in that moment, I realized that acts done for God are never forgotten, both by Him and by those who witness them.

As the chief executive officer of your organization, it is essential to recognize that when your endeavors are aligned with divine purpose, the influence of God becomes integral to your work. This awareness transcends mere authority; it instills a sense of accountability, knowing that a higher power observes your actions and decisions. Consequently, this understanding compels you to strive for excellence, as God is deserving of the utmost quality in all that you undertake. It is crucial to remain engaged and attentive to this calling, as it shapes not only your professional conduct but also your spiritual journey.

The resources and opportunities we possess are ultimately bestowed upon us by God, and it is through our actions that Christ continues to manifest in the world. Each individual serves as a vessel for divine purpose, allowing God to operate through them rather than merely seeking to utilize God for personal gain. In a time when the burdens of life weigh heavily on many, it is common for individuals to approach God primarily for assistance. However, it is vital to shift this perspective and consider how God might wish to employ us in His service. Often, when individuals are prompted to submit prayer requests, the focus tends to be on personal needs rather than reflecting on the divine intentions behind their roles and responsibilities. Questions such as why one has been entrusted with a particular position or what God desires to accomplish through their work are seldom posed, leading to a tendency to prioritize personal advancement over fulfilling a higher purpose.

To the glory of God, it is essential to reflect on whether you have fully utilized the opportunities presented to you before seeking advancement. Many individuals fail to achieve the progress they are capable of because they have excluded God from their endeavors. God observes our actions and intentions, desiring to fulfill His purpose through our experiences and placements in life. It is crucial to remember that you are a servant of God, and He intends to work through you. Therefore, it is vital not to take personal ownership of your achievements; rather, recognize that they are part of a divine plan. All aspects of my work, career, and business are manifestations of the covenant I hold with God, and it is important to approach these with humility, acknowledging that nothing truly belongs to us.

In 1 Corinthians 4:7, the scripture poses a profound question: “For who makes you differ from another, and what do you have that you did not receive?” This verse serves as a reminder that all we possess, whether it be our status, possessions, or talents, is a gift from God. One of my mentors humorously articulated that in the Kingdom of God, we do not achieve; rather, we receive. This notion emphasizes that what may appear as personal accomplishments are, in fact, blessings bestowed upon us by God. Therefore, it is imperative to recognize that your possessions and positions are not solely your achievements but rather gifts from God meant to be utilized for His glory. Let us remind one another that everything we have is a result of divine generosity, and we are called to steward these gifts responsibly.

The acknowledgment of hard work is essential, yet it is crucial to recognize the true essence of labor in various contexts. For instance, if one seeks to witness the embodiment of strenuous effort, a visit to Tejuosho Market or Mile 12 in Lagos would provide a vivid illustration. These bustling local markets are teeming with individuals engaged in demanding physical work, often seen maneuvering wheelbarrows laden with goods. Conversely, a stroll through corporate Nigeria reveals a stark reality, where numerous businesses are ceasing operations daily despite the strategic efforts of their owners. This phenomenon is not limited to any single sector; it permeates every industry, including technology, where the juxtaposition of new ventures emerging alongside established businesses shutting down is evident. A drive along Admiralty in Lekki Phase 1 serves as a testament to this, as one may notice that the signboards of several establishments have changed, indicating the closure of businesses that once thrived.

In light of these observations, it is imperative to reflect on the source of true prosperity. The biblical passage from Deuteronomy 8:18 emphasizes the importance of recognizing divine influence in the attainment of wealth, stating that it is God who grants the power to prosper. This notion underscores that mere hard work is insufficient without the favor of God, which can elevate one’s efforts and render them fruitful. Many individuals toil diligently yet find their endeavors unproductive, often due to the absence of divine favor. The subsequent verses serve as a cautionary reminder to remain humble and grateful, warning against the dangers of forgetting the Lord after experiencing abundance and success. It is a call to acknowledge the journey from hardship to prosperity, ensuring that one remains grounded and appreciative of the divine guidance that facilitates true wealth.

Today, many among us have traversed through both remarkable and challenging experiences in life, yet it is evident that the Lord has guided you through these trials. He has been a steadfast companion, demonstrating unwavering faithfulness throughout the ages. As you find yourself in a season of prosperity, it is crucial to remember the Lord your God and recognize that your achievements are not solely the result of your own efforts. The divine influence is profoundly real; it surpasses the tangible presence of those around you. The assistance from God is genuine and transformative, deserving of our praise and gratitude. Therefore, let us exalt His name, for the covenant we share with Him serves as our assurance when faced with daunting obstacles.

It is inevitable that we will encounter significant challenges in this life, but knowing that God’s support is with us allows us to remain unshaken. We draw strength from the God of Jacob, confident in the knowledge that He has delivered us in the past and will do so again. Those who are committed to building in accordance with God’s covenant maintain a high level of accountability to Him, understanding that their lives are fundamentally centered around divine purpose. Furthermore, it is essential to recognize that while one may be engaged in work for God, it is equally important to be actively building alongside Him. This partnership involves relying on God’s guidance, principles, and power, ensuring that we are not left in darkness. In a world fraught with turmoil, we can take solace in the fact that the same God who brought light into existence amidst chaos continues to illuminate our paths today, enabling us to perceive opportunities even in the darkest of times.

In this season, a profound darkness may envelop many, yet it is assured that divine illumination will be granted to those who seek it. The promise is clear: as one engages in a partnership with the Almighty, light will be bestowed upon their path. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is declared that no one shall find themselves in a state of despair or abandonment during this time. The Lord is the source of insight, enabling us to perceive opportunities even amidst the turmoil and confusion that pervades the world today. It is essential to recognize that this journey is not merely about constructing for God; rather, it is about collaborating with Him. In this partnership, one seeks to understand the divine perspective, to grasp the thoughts and intentions of God, which are crucial for the endeavors at hand.

As articulated in Isaiah 55:8-9, the thoughts and ways of God transcend human understanding, akin to the vastness of the heavens compared to the earth. This divine alignment is vital for the current season and the projects one undertakes, as God desires to provide the necessary intangible resources for successful construction. Accessing the wisdom, favor, and guidance of God is paramount, as it signifies building in accordance with His will and direction. The Word of God serves as a catalyst for creative power, transforming chaos into order and inspiring a renewed perspective on challenges. Thus, as children of God, it is imperative to build under the influence of the Spirit and the teachings of Scripture, knowing that divine resources are at our disposal to support our efforts.

God seeks to collaborate with each of us, aiming to inspire our actions in light of the current state of the world. This divine call encourages us to engage in a partnership with Him, emphasizing the importance of building together. It is essential to remind those around us of this mission, as we collectively affirm the need to construct our lives in alignment with God’s vision. As I conclude this message, I wish to present a challenge that will lead us into a time of prayer. The focus is on building for God and with God, but it is crucial to recognize that our progress must be directed appropriately. In this ongoing teaching series, we are not merely discussing progress for its own sake; rather, we must strive for advancement that aligns with God’s intentions. Pursuing a path without divine guidance can lead us to undesirable outcomes.

To understand the essence of progress, one must reflect on its meaning in their own life. As you seek insight into your journey, consider whether your aspirations align with your personal ambitions or with God’s will and purpose for you. This distinction is vital. Furthermore, true progress is only achieved when one is becoming the person God intended them to be. Many individuals desire wealth but may compromise their integrity in the pursuit of prosperity. Similarly, the quest for marriage can lead to bitterness if not approached with the right mindset. Therefore, it is imperative to seek progress not merely for its own sake but to allow God to guide our paths. The Scriptures remind us that the blessings from the Lord enrich without bringing sorrow. It is possible to attain great wealth while harboring bitterness, and there are those who, in their relentless pursuit of success, have lost their moral compass, disregarding the value of human life in their quest for advancement.

When one seeks to advance their own business by undermining the enterprises of others, employing any means necessary to achieve personal gain, they may attain wealth but at the cost of their moral integrity. This pursuit of success, devoid of ethical considerations, leads to a corrupted spirit, which is contrary to the divine intention for human progress. True advancement, as envisioned by God, encompasses not only material success but also a transformation towards a more Christ-like character. The essence of this journey is to embody the virtues of compassion and integrity, reflecting the nature of Christ in all endeavors. The scripture in Matthew 8:36-37 poignantly reminds us that the accumulation of worldly riches is meaningless if it results in the forfeiture of one’s soul.

In contemporary society, many individuals sacrifice their values and well-being in exchange for fleeting gains, whether it be in the pursuit of relationships or material wealth. This is not genuine progress; rather, it is a hollow victory that leaves one spiritually impoverished. The aspiration should be to achieve prosperity while maintaining righteousness, generosity, and health. It is crucial to recognize that one’s character and spiritual state are far more significant than mere possessions. The divine perspective emphasizes that true success and prosperity should not come at the expense of one’s soul. Therefore, it is essential to reflect on who we are becoming in our journey, as this transformation is of paramount importance. Let us take a moment to contemplate these truths and allow them to resonate within us.

The divine element guarantees that the attainment of prosperity and success does not compromise the integrity of your soul. As you reflect on your pursuits this season, consider what ambitions you are actively pursuing and what influences may be pursuing you in return. Are you seeking these goals in alignment with God, or is God absent from your endeavors? As we progress through this final teaching series of 2023, which aims to prepare us for the upcoming year, I encourage you to actively engage with God. This is the reason we have prioritized the concept of the God Factor in our discussions.
