The Greatness Mandate (Arabic Subtitles)

THE GREATNESS MANDATE

Greatness, for a Christian adhering to the New Testament, is not merely an aspiration but a divine mandate rooted in God’s covenant with Abraham. It is essential to acknowledge this greatness mandate and to affirm its presence in one’s life. By proclaiming that one carries this mandate, individuals are reminded of their inherent potential and responsibility to live in accordance with it. The church, therefore, serves a pivotal role in advancing this greatness mandate, striving to expand the boundaries of God’s kingdom. In the context of Africa, a significant challenge has been the tendency to focus solely on the gospel of salvation, neglecting the broader gospel of the kingdom. While salvation is undoubtedly important, it is merely a component of a more extensive divine plan.

The gospel of the kingdom encompasses a more comprehensive vision, emphasizing not only the necessity of salvation but also the call to manifest God’s glory on Earth. If the sole purpose of faith were to attain heaven, then upon accepting Christ, believers would be immediately taken to the afterlife, leaving their earthly possessions behind. However, God’s intention is far more profound; He desires to raise individuals as sons and daughters who actively participate in His kingdom here and now. The scriptures affirm this, as seen in Revelation, where it is declared that the kingdoms of this world will ultimately belong to God and His Christ, and believers are called to reign alongside Him. Jesus Himself instructed His followers to pray for the coming of God’s kingdom, emphasizing its immediacy and relevance. Understanding this kingdom perspective is crucial, especially for those who may feel disconnected from the concept of monarchy in their current environments.

The term “kingdom” may seem less impactful in contemporary society, particularly as we navigate a democratic framework. However, during the time of Jesus, the proclamation of the kingdom of God was made against the backdrop of the Roman Empire, which represented a formidable political authority. To declare the existence of a new kingdom in such a context could be perceived as an act of treason. This understanding is crucial when considering Jesus’ assertion that His kingdom is not of this world. It emphasizes that the church is not merely a subculture but rather the primary culture that Jesus intended to establish. He came to introduce the kingdom of God as the central cultural paradigm, and those who belong to this kingdom are entrusted with the responsibility of advancing its principles and mandates.

God has a distinct purpose for each of us, as well as for the church as a collective entity.

A significant aspect of this divine purpose is the realization of His kingdom agenda on Earth. God desires transformation in lives, the emergence of righteousness among many, and the upliftment of the impoverished. He aims for a world where individuals can experience a fulfilling life, and He intends to achieve this through our actions and commitments. Often, we may find ourselves doubting the grace of God and the potential for His work in our lives. The example of Jeremiah, as illustrated in Jeremiah chapter 1, serves as a poignant reminder. In verses 4 to 10, we see Jeremiah engaged in a dialogue with God, grappling with his calling and questioning his own capabilities, which reflects the common human experience of uncertainty in the face of divine purpose.

In Jeremiah chapter 1, specifically verse 4, it is stated that the word of the Lord was revealed to the prophet, indicating a divine calling. Verse 5 elaborates on this calling, asserting that before Jeremiah was formed, God had already known him and had set him apart for a specific purpose. This scripture highlights the profound concept that God’s intentions precede the creation of individuals. It suggests that each person is designed with a unique purpose in mind, crafted to fulfill certain roles and achieve specific objectives. The notion that one’s physical attributes, whether stature or build, are aligned with divine intention reinforces the idea that every aspect of a person is intentional and serves a greater purpose.

Furthermore, the passage emphasizes that individuals are not only shaped for God’s original intention but are also ordained for particular roles within that framework. This ordination signifies a selection for specific tasks or areas of service, underscoring the belief that everyone possesses a distinct combination of spiritual gifts, passions, abilities, and personalities that God intends to utilize. The concept of “SHAPE” serves as an acronym to encapsulate these elements, and it is essential for individuals to engage in self-discovery within a supportive community, such as a church. The church functions as a nurturing environment where individuals can explore and understand their unique configurations, ultimately guiding them toward fulfilling their divine purpose within the kingdom.

We are here to cultivate our unique attributes for the purpose of advancing the kingdom. The letter ‘S’ in the acronym represents spiritual gifts, which are inherent to every individual created by God. Upon entering the kingdom of God and experiencing rebirth, these gifts begin to manifest as one’s spirit becomes enlivened. Prior to salvation, individuals are disconnected from the Holy Spirit, who seeks to activate these divine gifts within them. Each person possesses at least one spiritual gift, which may include administration, hospitality, or prophecy, among others. These gifts are integral to our identity and purpose within the kingdom.

Additionally, the heart serves as the center of our passions, and it is essential to recognize that no individual is devoid of passion; rather, some have yet to uncover theirs. God, in His essence, embodies passion and imparts a portion of this fervor to each of us. It is crucial to identify what ignites your passion, whether it be a love for children, a commitment to employment, an appreciation for beauty and fashion, or an interest in media. Each person has unique abilities, and while some may excel in singing, others may not possess that talent at the moment. However, with dedication and training, one can develop new skills. Ultimately, it is important to understand that our entry into the kingdom is not contingent upon our abilities but rather on our faith and relationship with God.

The entrance to a transformative experience is facilitated by the invaluable sacrifice of the Lamb, for which we offer our praise to Jesus. However, it is essential to recognize that each individual possesses unique abilities that contribute to their identity. While some may excel in writing, others may struggle to articulate their thoughts, even under pressure, such as when required to provide a statement to law enforcement. This diversity in skills and talents reflects the intricate design of God, who shapes us with distinct personalities. We are familiar with various personality types, such as Sanguine, Melancholic, Phlegmatic, and Choleric, each representing different ways of engaging with the world. Some individuals are more inclined to express themselves verbally, while others may prefer contemplation over conversation. This spectrum of personalities showcases the creativity inherent in human nature, and it is crucial to understand that there are no inherently good or bad personalities. Instead, God desires that we utilize our unique traits to glorify Him and serve humanity.

Moreover, our life experiences, ranging from professional encounters to familial backgrounds, play a significant role in shaping who we are. For instance, individuals raised by a single parent may find that their experiences hold particular significance in their lives. I encourage those who have not yet explored my book, “Don’t Waste Your Pain,” to do so, as it delves deeply into the importance of recognizing how God can work through our distinct life experiences. Personally, I was raised in a polygamous household, and I am grateful for the lessons learned during that time, as they have enriched my pastoral journey. Growing up among a large family of approximately 26 or 27 siblings has equipped me with the ability to navigate social dynamics comfortably. The experience of having multiple maternal figures often led to moments of confusion, yet it also fostered a sense of community and resilience that I carry with me today.

The presence of numerous mothers in this gathering highlights a significant aspect of our community, as each individual brings unique experiences that contribute to our collective growth. It is essential to recognize that every challenge and hardship we encounter serves a purpose in shaping our lives. These experiences, even the most painful ones, are not without merit; they are integral to our development and can be harnessed for a greater purpose. The church serves as a vital environment for individuals to uncover their unique attributes and talents, enabling them to serve both God and humanity effectively. It is crucial to understand that God utilizes a diverse range of experiences to fulfill His divine plans for our lives, as illustrated in the biblical narrative where God informed Jeremiah of His knowledge of him even before his formation.

In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus addressed His disciples, expressing His intention to transform their fishing skills into a means of advancing God’s kingdom. This transition often presents a challenge for many, as self-doubt can cloud our judgment regarding our gifts and abilities. We may find ourselves questioning the value of what we possess, similar to the widow in 2 Kings who approached the prophet Elijah in a time of desperation. Despite her initial claim of having “nothing” but a jar of oil, her willingness to look inward revealed a potential resource that could be utilized. It is imperative for us to recognize that even the smallest talents or attributes can be significant in God’s eyes. Whether it is a smile, a way with words, or a natural affinity for connecting with others, there is always something within us that can be leveraged for a higher purpose.

Engage with your neighbor and convey the message that there is a divine purpose at play. Jesus, in his teachings, recognized the skills of his disciples, stating that their ability to catch fish was sufficient for his greater plan. He transformed their mundane task into a higher calling, declaring that they would become “fishers of men.” This concept resonates deeply, particularly for individuals who find themselves in a phase of life where the primary goal is to transition from mere survival to achieving success. In Nigeria, the term “breakthrough” has become synonymous with this aspiration, as many individuals, grappling with deprivation, often focus solely on attaining success rather than contemplating their significance in the world.

When Jesus called upon his disciples, he aimed to elevate them from a survival mindset, where fishing was merely a means to sustain life, to a transformative mission that transcended basic needs. The challenge lies in envisioning a purpose that goes beyond personal gain, such as fishing for the sake of transformation and impact. In contemporary society, many equate greatness with material wealth and social status, yet Jesus taught that true greatness is found in servitude. As articulated in Matthew 23:11, the greatest among us must serve others. While some may never achieve wealth or prominence, their legacy can endure through their commitment to God’s kingdom and divine purpose. Ultimately, the gospel of the Kingdom extends beyond mere salvation; it empowers individuals to make a meaningful impact in their communities, and this church is dedicated to fostering a culture where greatness is accessible to all.

The essence of greatness lies in service, and we are relying on divine guidance to empower us in our mission to help individuals uncover their true purpose. Our goal is to facilitate a transition from mere survival to genuine success, and ultimately to a life of significance. It is essential to reflect on the purpose behind the wealth one accumulates. While it is commendable to share personal achievements, such as securing a job or purchasing a home, these milestones should not be viewed as the ultimate objectives. The narrative of success should extend beyond material possessions; it should encompass a deeper commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

The purpose of Jesus’ sacrifice transcends the attainment of worldly comforts; it is about redemption and reconciliation. Those who have not embraced His teachings can also achieve material success, but true fulfillment comes from participating in a greater mission—one that aims to transform lives and foster a community dedicated to saving souls. The call to become “fishers of men” represents a higher vision, urging us to focus on impact rather than self-interest. The lowest form of existence is merely surviving; we are encouraged to strive for a life that influences and uplifts others. As we commemorate this ninth anniversary, we are not merely celebrating success; we are honoring the profound impact we have made in our community and beyond.

It is a profound honor for my team and me to lead this church, and we recognize the responsibility that comes with this privilege. Each individual is called to engage in their respective areas of influence, utilizing their unique gifts and abilities. If we collectively embrace our distinct roles, we have the potential to effect significant change within our nation. It is essential to understand that there exists within each of us a deep yearning for expression, as articulated in Romans 8:19, which states that the creation itself eagerly anticipates the revelation of the children of God. This revelation is not meant to be hidden; rather, it is to occur in the various spheres of societal influence where we are positioned.

The church plays a crucial role in guiding individuals to discover their unique shapes and helping them find their place within these spheres of influence. In 1975, Bill Bright, the founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, along with his partner Lauren Cunningham, who established Youth With a Mission, developed a divinely inspired strategy aimed at transforming nations by engaging with the seven spheres of societal influence. Once we identify our unique shapes, it is imperative to locate our specific mountains of influence to bring about change in various communities, nations, and cities. The biblical prophets often focused on nations, and Jesus Himself expressed deep sorrow for Jerusalem, highlighting the importance of people groups. To create meaningful impact, we must consider how to reach out to diverse groups, such as single mothers, widows, and individuals with disabilities, recognizing that the term “nation” encompasses various people groups, or ethnos, from which we derive the concept of ethnic nationalities.

In Isaiah chapter 2, beginning with verse 1, the scripture proclaims that in the latter days, the mountain of the Lord’s house will be elevated above all other mountains, drawing nations to it. This passage does not solely refer to traditional church gatherings, which will undoubtedly continue to flourish. Rather, it emphasizes the role of Christians who, having been nurtured and discipled within a robust church community, are called to venture into various societal spheres, or “mountains,” to exert influence and leadership. As these individuals embody the principles of the Kingdom of God in their respective fields, they will demonstrate the transformative power of faith, prompting others to seek a relationship with God.

Among these mountains, the realms of entertainment and media stand out as critical areas for influence. Those who occupy these spaces have the potential to shape the next generation and impact societal values significantly. By ensuring that the airwaves are filled with uplifting and principled content, rather than mere distractions, they can foster a culture that promotes genuine happiness and fulfillment. It is essential for these individuals to recognize their divine mandate as they engage in their professions, carrying with them the authority and message of the Kingdom. The church’s mission is to equip and empower its members to ascend these mountains, whether in business, media, or other sectors, to represent God effectively and contribute to the establishment of His Kingdom on earth.

As a member of the kingdom, one’s primary focus should be on the principles and values that govern it.

The prayer “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” serves as a guiding mantra, prompting individuals to reflect on their role in the world and to seek divine guidance in their endeavors. In this contemplative state, one must consider how to contribute positively to society, echoing God’s intentions in their respective spheres of influence. It is essential to recognize that while those who oppose kingdom values may aggressively promote their agendas—be it related to issues such as abortion or LGBTQ rights—there exists a dignified way to assert the kingdom’s stance. This involves articulating a clear vision of transformation and standing firm against destructive influences, such as drug abuse, without compromising one’s integrity.

In the pursuit of establishing a kingdom-oriented business, it is crucial to ensure that one’s endeavors do not inadvertently support harmful practices. Engaging in activities that undermine the well-being of individuals contradicts the very essence of kingdom principles. Transparency in financial matters is vital, as is the commitment to using resources for the advancement of the gospel rather than personal gain. The speaker emphasizes a dedication to living a life of impact rather than wealth accumulation, asserting that their entrepreneurial skills are not the driving force behind their current pursuits. They have actively supported others in their business ventures and have invested in nurturing innovative ideas, demonstrating that success can be achieved through collaboration and integrity rather than mere financial ambition.

I have explored various ideas and initiatives, and I hope you are still engaged with me. Currently, I serve on one or two business boards, where I contribute valuable insights that are being utilized to generate revenue. While some individuals may remember my contributions, others may not, and I find that acceptable. My primary objective is not financial gain; rather, I seek to convey a deeper message. My principal focus lies in the realm of religion, which is where I dedicate most of my efforts. I balance my involvement in family and relationships with my business pursuits, but my foremost commitment remains in the religious sector, where I aspire to create a significant impact.

It is essential for each individual to identify their own area of influence, or “mountain,” as I refer to it. For instance, some may feel called to the field of education, which is crucial for transforming a nation; it is imperative that individuals rise to the occasion within this sector to instill kingdom values. Similarly, if your calling lies in governance and politics, we are here to offer our support—not necessarily in the form of financial assistance, but rather through the provision of guiding principles and encouragement. It is vital to reflect on the integrity of those in positions of power, particularly when we see individuals who claim to be Christians engaging in unethical behavior. We must consider the foundations of their discipleship and the extent of their commitment to spiritual growth, as true development requires more than sporadic attendance at church services. When individuals ascend to their respective mountains without adequate preparation, they may falter, leading to personal and moral failures that can have far-reaching consequences.

The perception that the church revolves solely around the pastor’s oversight, particularly in relation to financial contributions, is a common misconception. The pastor’s inquiry regarding your offering may stem from a genuine concern for the community’s spiritual and financial health. Throughout my two decades of pastoral experience in this city, I have encountered numerous young individuals who, despite being taught foundational Christian principles, have strayed from their faith. Many of these individuals, who arrived in this city as youth corps members nearly two decades ago, have since achieved significant financial success, yet they no longer participate in church activities or adhere to Christian values. Their focus on immediate breakthroughs has overshadowed their commitment to spiritual growth, leading them to overlook the broader purpose that God has for their lives.

In this era of technological advancement, it is crucial for individuals within the church to recognize and embrace their unique callings in various fields, such as science and technology, medicine, and information technology. God has a grander vision for humanity that extends beyond material possessions, such as owning property in multiple countries. It is essential to understand that breakthroughs are merely stepping stones toward fulfilling a greater purpose. Historical figures like Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein, who were both Christians, exemplify how faith can intersect with scientific achievement. Additionally, the story of John Newton, a former naval officer known for his tumultuous past, serves as a powerful reminder of redemption and transformation. His authorship of the hymn “Amazing Grace” illustrates that even those with a troubled history can contribute profoundly to the faith community, emphasizing the potential for growth and change within every individual.

On a particular day during his journey, he encountered a fierce storm that prompted him to earnestly pray for deliverance. Miraculously, the tempest subsided, leading him to a profound spiritual awakening in which he dedicated his life to Christ. This newfound faith inspired him to attend church regularly and immerse himself in the Scriptures. As a result, he was bestowed with a vision that transcended mere personal success; he became aligned with notable figures such as William Wilberforce, joining their efforts to combat the abhorrent practice of the slave trade in Britain. Their collective mission represented a cause far greater than themselves, and had they not taken a stand, the consequences could have been dire, potentially leading to a reality where descendants of their ancestors might be laboring in fields in Spain or elsewhere, harvesting apples. This narrative underscores the belief that God seeks to empower ordinary individuals, guiding them to uncover their unique purpose and challenges.
