THE LAW OF VISION
In the current teaching series titled “Laws of Progress,” we are focusing on “The Law of Vision” as we approach the conclusion of this year and prepare to enter a new one. This series is designed not merely for entertainment but to encourage us to engage thoughtfully with the opportunities that lie ahead in the coming year. By grounding our approach in scriptural principles, we aim to position ourselves to receive the fullness of God’s blessings during this season and beyond. The emphasis on the Laws of Progress is particularly relevant today as we delve into the insights provided in Habakkuk chapter 2, verses 1 to 3, as rendered in The Amplified Translation. The passage highlights the importance of vigilance and clarity in vision, urging us to document our aspirations so that they may be pursued with purpose and urgency.
Last Sunday marked the beginning of this enlightening series, where we introduced the concept of the “God Factor” through a study of 2 Chronicles chapter 26, verses 1 to 10. We underscored the critical nature of divine assistance in our lives, asserting that the foundation of any progress lies in our engagement with God’s help. The biblical reference from Psalm 127 reinforces this notion, stating that without the Lord’s involvement, all human efforts are ultimately futile. This principle serves as a reminder that while we may be equipped with knowledge of various principles, it is the acknowledgment of the Principal that truly empowers us to navigate the complexities of life effectively.
The assistance of a higher power is essential when we establish a strong relationship with foundational principles. When we adhere to these principles, they, in turn, work in our favor. It is important to recognize that achieving progress in life is not an insurmountable challenge; rather, it hinges on our commitment to maintaining a connection with these core principles and living in accordance with them. These principles, often referred to as universal laws, are not confined by geographical boundaries. Regardless of where one may find themselves in the world, there are certain fundamental ways of living that must be respected. The adherence to these principles remains constant, irrespective of local climates or conditions, as they govern behavior universally.
As we approach the conclusion of this year and prepare to enter 2024, it is crucial to equip ourselves with the understanding of these principles. For those who may have missed our previous discussions, I encourage you to catch up, as we have explored the Laws of Vision from Habakkuk chapter 2. It is evident that God desires us to take proactive steps to position ourselves to receive divine visions and guidance. Vision can be understood as divinely inspired images of a more promising future, representing possibilities that extend beyond our current reality. While it is easy to become preoccupied with the limitations of our present circumstances, it is vital to remember that vision allows us to perceive opportunities that surpass those limitations. Understanding this concept is essential as we transition into the new year.
There is an imperative for me to adopt a more measured pace, akin to the prophet Habakkuk, as I position myself to observe and reflect upon my objectives. I will take my stand and attentively await the insights that may be revealed to me. In this season, it is crucial to contemplate what God is communicating to you. Are you vigilant in your observations? Are you placing yourself in circumstances that foster the reception of fresh visions and aspirations? It is essential to recognize that certain environments may only expose you to noise and distractions. Therefore, it is vital to intentionally curate moments, times, and spaces that facilitate your engagement with God, allowing for the emergence of new perspectives and the discovery of untapped possibilities. Remember, God’s work in your life is far from complete.
As you navigate through this year, whether you have experienced significant successes or faced considerable challenges in your business, it is important to understand that you are not forsaken. God remains actively involved in your life, your family, and your endeavors. While many may struggle to embrace this truth, it is through adopting new positions and organizing ourselves to be in a place of readiness that we can truly engage with what God is orchestrating. It is essential to look beyond the immediate reality to recognize the realm of possibilities that exists. In times of turmoil, believers must seek divine insight on every issue at hand. For those grappling with persistent challenges, genuine progress necessitates an engagement with the principle of vision, fostering a belief in new realities and possibilities, which is fundamentally aligned with the divine path.
An individual is never truly abandoned, for within the divine presence of God lies a realm of new realities and possibilities. It is often emphasized that what is inscribed in the spiritual realm holds greater significance than the circumstances currently unfolding. Many individuals become overly fixated on their immediate situations, which can detract from the profound truths that have been established. These truths represent our true reality and open the door to new opportunities. As stated in scripture, we are transformed from one level of glory to another through the Spirit of God, allowing us to engage with the potential that lies ahead. It is essential to adopt fresh perspectives across various aspects of life, including business and career, as these new viewpoints can illuminate the path that God intends for us.
There exists a state of being where the weight of reality and crisis can cloud our judgment, leading us to rely solely on logical reasoning. However, when God intervenes, His actions often transcend human logic, inviting us to embrace new possibilities and innovative ideas. The scripture from Jeremiah 33:3 encourages believers to reach out to God, promising that He will reveal great and mighty things that remain unknown to us. It is crucial to acknowledge that there are aspects of God’s plan for our lives that we have yet to discover. As the year draws to a close, it is an opportune moment to engage in prayer, worship, and reflection, allowing ourselves to be receptive to these new possibilities. The narrative in 1 Samuel Chapter 3 illustrates that such transformative experiences can be personal, familial, or even national, highlighting the varying scales at which individuals and communities can find themselves in a state of spiritual awakening.
The passage highlights the role of Samuel as he served the Lord under the guidance of Eli, emphasizing the rarity of divine messages and visions during that period. The New Living Translation states that “Meanwhile the boy Samuel served the Lord by assisting Eli. Now in those days messages from the Lord were very rare; visions were quite uncommon.” This context sets the stage for understanding the spiritual climate of the time, where communication from God was infrequent, and the people were in a state of spiritual dryness. The request for the New King James Version further illustrates this point, stating, “Now the boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli, and the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation.” This serves as a reminder to reflect on our own spiritual state and the potential absence of divine insight in our lives.
It is crucial to examine whether we find ourselves in a similar situation, where the lack of revelation may indicate a disconnect from God. The text draws attention to the fact that even Eli, the priest, experienced diminishing vision, both physically and spiritually, as noted in the subsequent verses. This deterioration serves as a metaphor for the spiritual blindness that can afflict even those in positions of religious authority. As God sought to raise Samuel as a new prophet, He intended to provide him with fresh visions and revelations, signifying a new beginning. The prayer for divine access in this season is a call for renewal and enlightenment, urging individuals to seek a deeper connection with God and to be open to receiving His guidance and wisdom.
In the journey of life, it is crucial not to lose sight of one’s purpose, as there exists a realm where individuals—be it a man, a woman, or an entire family—can thrive without the burden of overwhelming revelations or clear foresight. In this space, the path forward may not be illuminated by divine messages or prophetic visions; rather, it often requires sheer determination and relentless effort. Each day presents itself as a new opportunity to advance, yet the absence of clarity regarding future directions can be disheartening. It is my earnest prayer that individuals find liberation from such a stagnant phase, invoking divine intervention to usher them into a season filled with fresh insights and renewed perspectives. May the Lord open new horizons and inspire transformative visions within your hearts.
As we prepare to embrace the upcoming year, it is imperative to cultivate a mindset that is receptive to compelling visions. Entering 2024 without a clear understanding of one’s goals or aspirations is not a viable option, especially for those in leadership or entrepreneurial roles. I invite those who manage or lead businesses to acknowledge their readiness for new visions by raising their hands, symbolizing their openness to divine guidance. It is essential to recognize that God delights in empowering leaders with the ability to envision and strategize effectively. The designation of a leader inherently implies a responsibility to guide others, and it is through the clarity of vision that one can truly lead with purpose and conviction.
The essence of effective leadership lies in the ability to perceive and comprehend the surrounding environment.
When a leader ceases to observe and listen, they begin to lose their capacity to guide others, necessitating that those around them take on leadership roles. This decline in awareness results in a diminished ability to gain insights and follow directives, which are fundamental responsibilities of a leader. A true leader possesses the foresight to recognize opportunities and challenges before others do, effectively charting a course and illuminating the path for their team. Leadership is characterized by the ability to know, show, and guide, and when a leader loses touch with these critical aspects, they forfeit their role in leading.
In any professional setting, whether managing a business or leading a team within a corporate structure, the qualifications for advancement hinge on one’s clarity of direction and vision. For those who hold faith, prayer becomes a vital tool in seeking divine guidance for health and progress in their endeavors. It is essential to request insight into future developments, as a clear vision not only provides direction but also attracts the necessary resources to fulfill that vision. Many individuals mistakenly focus their prayers on financial gain rather than seeking the tangible outcomes that align with divine purpose. When one aligns their ambitions with God’s will, they will find that every vision inspired by Him will naturally draw the resources required for its realization, adhering to the principle that vision consistently attracts its material equivalent.
Provision refers to the resources and opportunities that are aligned with a divine vision. When God imparts a vision, He has already set in motion the necessary provisions for its fulfillment; it is our responsibility to seek His guidance in order to discover where these resources are located. As we embark on this journey, we can expect that the provisions for our vision will manifest. I declare that the necessary provisions will come forth for your vision, ensuring that it will no longer remain unfulfilled. Vision empowers individuals to recognize and seize opportunities before they become widely recognized or commonplace, which is a significant advantage. As we approach the New Year, it is essential to pray for God to enhance your vision, to inspire new dreams, and to prepare you for fresh opportunities.
As a pastor, I have been fortunate to receive insights and revelations from God that have allowed me to pioneer initiatives, sometimes for the first time in our community. This unique perspective often leads others to inquire about the methods and results of these endeavors. In such moments, God places me in a position to share knowledge and experiences, illustrating how I achieved certain outcomes and encouraging others to pursue similar paths. Vision not only enables individuals to identify and act upon opportunities ahead of the curve, but it also fosters a sense of urgency and momentum. As stated in Habakkuk, genuine vision compels one to take action rather than remain passive. Experiencing a sudden awakening in the middle of the night can often be attributed to a profound sense of divine restlessness that accompanies the emergence of new visions. This sense of restlessness ignites a desire within your heart to explore fresh possibilities, particularly within the context of your family and personal life. As you return home, you may find yourself overwhelmed by the urge to pray, feeling a compelling burden to intercede until you witness these aspirations come to fruition. This divine burden is a catalyst for transformation, propelling you to pursue new opportunities with fervor and determination.
Moreover, vision serves as a guiding force, providing clarity and focus during both challenging and prosperous times. In moments of crisis, it is easy to become disheartened and lose sight of your goals, while periods of success can lead to complacency and distraction. However, a clear vision maintains your alignment with your divine purpose, ensuring that you remain steadfast regardless of external circumstances. It helps to delineate your priorities, preventing you from straying into unproductive relationships or endeavors. When a vision is firmly established in your heart, it acts as a compass, directing your actions and decisions, and ultimately shaping the trajectory of your life.
There are certain destinations you are currently pursuing that may not align with your true purpose, and the primary reason for this misalignment is a deficiency in your vision. When a clear vision manifests in your life, it serves to realign your priorities and guide your actions more effectively. This clarity of purpose fosters an unusual level of focus, allowing you to concentrate your efforts on what truly matters. The direction in which your resources are allocated—particularly your time and attention—becomes a reflection of your vision. Time is arguably our most precious resource, while attention has become increasingly valuable in a world where countless distractions vie for it. The manner in which some individuals engage with social media suggests that they are being compensated to remain on platforms like Facebook or YouTube, highlighting the need for a more intentional approach to resource management.
The allocation of your time, attention, and financial resources is a direct manifestation of your vision. It is essential to scrutinize where your time is spent, what captures your attention, and how your money is distributed, as these factors collectively define your focus and vision. Many individuals may claim a passion for various causes or relationships, yet a closer examination of their lives often reveals a stark contrast between their stated passions and their actual commitments. For instance, someone may profess a deep love for their marriage, but if an analysis of their week reveals only a mere 25 minutes of meaningful interaction with their spouse, the sincerity of that claim comes into question. Similarly, if financial records indicate a lack of investment in the relationship, it becomes evident that the professed passion may not be genuine. This principle resonates with the biblical assertion that where one’s heart lies, there too will their treasure be found, emphasizing the importance of aligning one’s actions with their declared values and commitments.
The allocation of your time, attention, and financial resources serves as a clear indicator of your true priorities and passions. This reality underscores the importance of taking your commitments seriously, particularly as we approach a new year. It is essential to reassess and redirect certain aspects of your life to align with your vision. I possess a distinct vision for my household and for the work I am engaged in, particularly in nurturing future leaders. My recent travels, which included visiting three countries in a single week, were not undertaken lightly; they were driven by a profound sense of purpose rather than mere wanderlust. After a particularly taxing journey, I found it necessary to disconnect from my devices to recuperate, reflecting on the year’s accomplishments and recognizing the significance of my efforts in international outreach.
During a brief 22-hour stay in Kenya, I experienced a powerful connection with God that reinforced my commitment to my mission. The impact of that visit was profound and lasting, affirming my belief that my endeavors are divinely guided. I am determined to invest my energy, resources, and focus into the vision that God has placed in my heart, rather than allowing distractions to divert my attention. When one is truly committed to a divine vision, it becomes easier to prioritize and to decline engagements that do not align with that purpose. The biblical principle that “where there is no vision, the people perish” resonates deeply; it highlights the necessity of having a clear direction in life. Without vision, individuals may lack discipline and succumb to aimlessness, but with a defined purpose, one can maintain focus and restraint, ensuring that their commitments are meaningful and aligned with their ultimate goals.
Blessed is the individual who adheres to the law. The Passion Translation emphasizes that in the absence of vision, individuals tend to lose their way. It is a poignant reminder that without a clear direction, people may find themselves wandering aimlessly, influenced by negative forces. This notion is echoed in the Book of Job, where God convenes with the sons of men, and the devil is present. When questioned by God about his presence, Satan responds that he is merely roaming the earth. This behavior is mirrored in contemporary society, where individuals often find themselves distracted, whether on social media, in public spaces, or even within their workplaces. Such aimlessness is indicative of a lack of vision, a condition that one can overcome through divine intervention.
As we approach the end of the year, it is imperative to remain vigilant and receptive to the visions and revelations that God may impart. The Holy Spirit is eager to bestow upon us a compelling vision, as indicated in scripture, which speaks of extraordinary things that have yet to be discovered or conceived. These revelations are reserved for those who truly love God, suggesting that a deep relationship with the divine opens the door to unimaginable possibilities. The promise of vision is a significant aspect of the Holy Spirit’s outpouring, and for those who seek it earnestly, there lies a wealth of insight and direction waiting to be unveiled. Therefore, let us prepare our hearts to receive these divine insights and embrace the transformative power they hold.
In the biblical text of Joel 2:28, it is proclaimed that in the latter days, God will pour out His Spirit upon all humanity, leading to a profound transformation where sons and daughters will prophesy, the elderly will dream dreams, and the youth will witness visions. This passage emphasizes the promise of divine inspiration and revelation that accompanies the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Specifically, the mention of visions serves as a significant aspect of this promise, indicating that the Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in instilling vision within our hearts. There are three primary avenues through which the Holy Spirit cultivates this vision, and it is essential to explore these pathways while remaining open to divine guidance.
One of the most profound ways the Holy Spirit births vision is through the pain and challenges we encounter in life. As we approach the end of the year, it is vital not to shy away from difficult circumstances, even when they are painful. Instead of seeking immediate relief, we should engage with our struggles and ask meaningful questions, as it is often in these moments that God reveals His plans for us. Many biblical figures, as well as individuals throughout history, have discovered their purpose and vision through the trials they faced. For instance, the late Reverend Kenneth E. Hagin, who suffered from a severe heart condition in his youth, experienced a divine calling during a moment of despair when he expected to receive last rites. Rather than succumbing to his pain, he engaged with God, leading to a promise of healing and a commitment to preach the gospel. Similarly, in Judges 6, Gideon’s encounter with God amidst his struggles illustrates how divine vision can emerge from our most challenging experiences.
Gideon expressed his confusion and despair in Judges chapter 6, verse 13, when he questioned, “Oh my Lord, if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us?” This moment of doubt reflects Gideon’s struggle to reconcile his faith with the harsh realities surrounding him. The angel of the Lord responded by affirming God’s presence, yet Gideon continued to grapple with the troubling circumstances, particularly the oppression from the Midianites. He articulated his frustrations, asking why, if God was indeed with him, he faced such difficulties, including health issues and financial struggles. He recalled the stories of miraculous deliverance from Egypt, lamenting that it seemed as though God had abandoned them to their enemies. In a pivotal moment, the Lord instructed Gideon to harness his strength and assured him of his divine mission to save Israel from the Midianites, marking the beginning of a transformative journey for Gideon as he began to receive a renewed vision and purpose amidst his pain.
Similarly, Nehemiah’s experience in chapter 1, verses 3-4 of the New Living Translation illustrates the profound impact of distress on one’s sense of purpose. Upon receiving news from his brother Hanani about the dire situation in Jerusalem, where the returning exiles faced significant challenges and disgrace, Nehemiah was deeply moved. His reaction was one of sorrow; he sat down and wept, mourning for days while fasting and praying to God. This emotional response was not merely an expression of grief but served as a catalyst for a new vision and project that would ultimately lead to the restoration of Jerusalem’s walls. Nehemiah’s burden became the foundation for his mission, demonstrating that moments of pain and distress can often herald the emergence of new opportunities and divine assignments, urging individuals to remain open to the possibilities that may arise from their struggles.
Nehemiah resolutely declared that he would not rest until the walls of Jerusalem were restored. He approached the king, and as the narrative unfolds in the book of Nehemiah, it becomes evident that God granted Nehemiah favor in the eyes of the king. This divine favor resulted in the king providing Nehemiah with all the necessary resources, including a safe passage through various provinces and the support of local governors. With these provisions, Nehemiah undertook the monumental task of rebuilding the wall, accomplishing this significant feat in just fifty-two days. This remarkable achievement serves as a testament to the extraordinary things God can accomplish in a short period, even amidst existing challenges. It emphasizes the importance of seeking God earnestly during difficult times, as He can bring forth new visions and opportunities that will elevate one’s life.
Furthermore, the realization of promises is contingent upon our commitment to pursuing God’s vision for our lives. By engaging deeply with God, especially in times of pain, we can uncover new insights and directions. This process involves not only seeking answers to our struggles but also reflecting on the promises God has made, whether they are personal revelations or scriptural assurances. For instance, in Genesis chapter 12, God spoke to Abraham, instructing him to leave his homeland, which initiated a transformative journey toward the Promised Land. Similarly, Joseph’s dreams revealed the future that God had in store for him. Thus, it is essential to consider what promises from Scripture or personal revelations may serve as a foundation for a renewed vision in your life, guiding you toward the fulfillment of God’s purpose.
In the narrative of Genesis 37, God revealed Himself to Joseph through a dream, wherein Joseph witnessed a scene in which he and his brothers were engaged in agricultural labor. In this vision, he observed his own sheaf of grain standing upright while the sheaves of his brothers bowed down to it. This profound revelation resonated deeply within Joseph, igniting a divine promise that would ultimately lead him to a position of prominence in Egypt. It is essential to remain vigilant during this season for fresh guidance and promises from the Word of God, as these divine assurances have the potential to transform into tangible realities, reshaping your vision and purpose in life, all in the precious name of Jesus.
Furthermore, it is crucial to recognize that God frequently seeks to introduce new paradigms into our lives. However, many individuals tend to cling to familiar patterns and resist change. For those who are pioneers, particularly leaders of businesses or organizations, it is imperative to periodically reassess and redefine your roles and responsibilities. As a CEO, for instance, it is advisable to collaborate with your human resources team to update your job description annually, ensuring that it reflects your evolving vision and objectives. In my experience of pastoring a church for over thirteen years, I have consistently taken the initiative to redefine my own job description to adapt to changing circumstances. This proactive approach has been vital in preventing stagnation within the organization. It is essential for leaders to embrace new paradigms, as failure to do so can lead to organizational stagnation. I encourage you to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit to help you apply these principles within your own context.
In Galatians chapter 2, particularly verses 7 to 9, the Apostle Paul articulates a significant shift in the divine mission he has been entrusted with, as conveyed in the New Living Translation. He emphasizes the emergence of a new dispensation, a transformative paradigm that necessitates his active engagement across various sectors and cultures. Paul asserts in verse 7 that he has been designated to preach the gospel to the Gentiles, paralleling Peter’s role as the apostle to the Jews. He highlights the unity of purpose among the apostles, noting that the same God who empowered Peter also equips him for his mission. Furthermore, he recounts how prominent figures in the early church, namely James, Peter, and John, acknowledged the divine calling upon him and Barnabas, accepting them as fellow laborers in this new endeavor.
Paul’s message underscores a pivotal transition in the understanding of God’s relationship with humanity. Historically, the God of Israel was perceived as exclusive to the Jewish people, creating a divide that left the Gentiles feeling alienated. However, with Paul’s arrival, a new paradigm emerges, proclaiming that the God of Israel is now the God of all nations. This shift signifies a broader apostleship, where Paul is tasked with reaching the Gentiles while Peter focuses on the Jews. The essence of this transformation lies in recognizing the evolving nature of divine purpose, urging individuals to remain attuned to the new perspectives and paradigms that arise within their own fields. The call to adapt and embrace these changes is crucial, as it allows for the reception of new insights and opportunities, much like the necessity for new wineskins to accommodate the fresh wine of revelation.
As we approach the New Year, I find myself reflecting on my role as a global lead pastor, which encompasses a new level of apostolic responsibility that extends beyond any single local congregation, including this one. It is important to clarify that I am not the pastor of this church; rather, I am here to support your pastor. My presence should not be perceived as aimless activity; instead, it is a fulfillment of a divine assignment. I hope you grasp the significance of this message: the apostolic mission is inherently prophetic, and God will guide us as we embark on new endeavors. We are transitioning from a local church model to a global church-planting movement, which represents a significant shift in our approach. I encourage you to consider how this transformation parallels your own professional life, whether in your job, business, or career.
